Has anyone figured out how to fix a PWG N55 wastegate rattle?

So I’ve searched and searched and read every thread on E90Post, 1addicts, F10/30/80posts, and still haven’t found an answer. It seems like there are solutions to the N54, and the EWG N55 is an easy fix via tune, but I haven’t found anything specifically for the PWG N55.

I have THE WORST wastegate rattle. I was hopeful that a tune would help but no dice.. it has gotten worse as mods progress. Currently I have: MPE exhaust, catless DP, charge pipe, intake, and BM3. The cold start delete is amazing for startup rattles, but i have a rattle from 10-90% throttle all the time. Light acceleration and full boost/WOT sounds amazing. When cruising in gear at ~2400 rpm it’s a constant flutter/rattle, on de-acceleration I hear it, every burble I hear it. If I put the car and gear and rev it to 1200 rpm it’s obviously constant. Classic “coins in a tin can” sound.

Local shops say they don’t have a fix (granted HI has shitty local shops), and I’ve spoken with Turbo Labs and they have yet to work on one, but they do make kits to fix it for the N54. They’re going to see what they can find out for me.

So, all that being said, anyone have some good info? This is my #1 priority right now as it’s driving me insane throughout my hour commute.

I know, I know

Yup! Exactly what I have going on. When the wastegate closes under heavier throttle it sounds amazing

putting stock downpipe and stock exhaust back on car may make the noise a lot less noticable....

Has anyone tried wrapping the downpipe in heat wrap to see if it masks the sound? I'm having the sane problem after DP install on my 2011 F10 N55 Pwg. Will try heat wrap in the next couple of weeks and report back.

It could help! I've been trying to figure it out, although I've been busy dodging a hurricane, I noticed that the noise definitely resonates from the Turbo/DP area itself, not the exhaust exit.

I haven't had time to drive to a few indy shops, they're all about an hour away. But still no luck on my end. Best solution I can find right now is upgrading to a PS1 or PS2

Oh jeeze, I hope you're safe and sound!

Update for you! I wrapped the DP and there was a minimal decrease in noise. If nothing else, engine temps should be a little better now.

I'm going to see if bootmod3 can create a rattle fix.

Ah, bummer to hear that. so far BM3 did not help I thought the extra boost would help hold the wastegate open or closed better but not at all. Pretty sure the bushing is shot. I reached out to turbo labs, I need to follow up with them.

Any details on how this is an easy fix via a tune adjustment??? I'm experiencing wastegate rattle during light acceleration.

I've been yold you can program the % for the EWG through certain tunes, but I really don't know as I have a PWG.

Mine is still a pita... hear it every day.
