Drivetrain Malfunction at high rpm
Hello everyone,
Im getting a drivetrain malfunction at high rpm mostly pulling onto the highway. Just today I got onto a on ramp at 4k rpm and drivetrain came on in no time . I recently tightened up my wastegate actuator to get rid of that dreaded wastegate rattle, sounds perfect now. Spark plugs and coil pack replaced twice in a 6 month time span. I was thinking it could be my vanos solenoids going out. I been getting a 130308 Vanos, outlet: control error, position not reached code. If someone who has dealt with this or can help please chime in Also I am stage 1 Bm3 tuned with CAI, chargepipe and soon catless downpipe. |

Just curious, what engine do you have? I just got an ftp charge pipe, catless downpipe, and BM3 stage 1 on my n20 and I also hear this annoying rattling sound mostly on cold starts and certain revs. Is the waste gate actuator easy to get to? I'll def try to see if that fixes it. As for the malfunction, that's super unfortunate man, I hope I don't experience the same thing eventually. Are you using the ngk iridium spark plugs and are you gapping them at the recommended width? Try to reach out to BM3 maybe too and see if they can give any insight

I have the N20 engine. I was at the touchless carwash the other day and revved to around 4k twice, sounded like I had tin cans under the hood. Tightened up the wastegate the next day and not a peep at cold start or revs. I adjusted the wastegate from the top of the engine bay, the only annoying part is getting off the three screws on the back that hold the wastegate in the bracket, but other then that easy adjustment ( I have PWG ). I recently gapped my plugs down to 0.025 and it helped a bit but the malfunction still came back, other then this annoying malfunction the car runs beautifully.

Just saw your reply, long and behold it was actually the vaccum pump. Tell tell sign was taking off the engine cover and holding it sideways, oil would POUR out of the vaccum lines connected to the reservoir underneath the cover. Changed the pump and drivetrain malfunction never came back. 20k miles later and still pulling full RPM range no problem.
