N20 Rebuild or Long Block

Hi, I have a 2013 528i S Drive. Upon leaving my house and accelerating up to about 40 MPH the engine started making an odd noise and losing power. As I was looking for a place to pull off, turn around and head back to the house, it suddenly chimed and put itself in park. As I coasted off the road, I could hear the parking pawl clicking and as soon as the car stopped, the engine shut off. I tried to start the engine again but as soon as the starter engages, all of the power goes off and the engine fails to move at all. I towed it back to the house and have not had a chance to try to turn the engine by hand with a wrench on the crank. My question is if the engine is seized, is it more cost effective to pull it and rebuild it or simply buy a reman long block and replace it. I should be noted that I have been chasing a drive train malfunction for a considerable period of time. I had tried about everything in the book to eliminate that issue other than replacing the turbo and doing the timing chain. I did have someone tell me that they thought there was a possibility that the chain was stretched and that the exhaust side valves could be slightly out of time causing a low boost issue. The only codes showing when it stopped are low boost and one about no input from exhaust cam. Any thoughts are appreciated as it is currently a yard ornament

I would rebuild it but again not sure how long ago you started to experience this issue.

The low boost started back in January. Chased it all summer with no luck clearing the 120308 code. The likely seized engine issue just happened. I have a friend that builds big block race engines and access to his shop and expertise but am not certain how much money is saved with rebuilding versus ordering a long block. If it were only a thousand or so difference or was rebuilding it significantly cheaper.

The dreaded N20 valve guide problem you think?
I don't know which of the two options would better. Depending on what happened, you may get away with a partial rebuild and redoing the timing chain and related bits.

Very well could be. My initial thoughts are that if I went with the long block option, I would save some time and not have to worry as much about future issues internally since I plan on keeping the car.
