receive damaged or opened packages!
You stood at the counter and accepted the open package!

I had a packaged shipped via USPS that was obviously opened or somehow tore open during package handling which I feel is highly unlikely.

The package in question was from an eBay seller for a vertical foregrip for my AR. When I got the package, the package was one of those manila padded shipping envelopes. Well at the bottom was a open which looked like someone had cut open. Whoever was handling the package had used Scotch tape to "seal" the envelope closed. I couldn't confront the mail carrier as I literally missed him by a few minutes. I immediately called my local post office and went down to the main branch. Showed the manager the package and filed an incident report on it. I also had to send a copy of the report to the seller so they can file a claim against USPS. The seller took care of me though. They shipped me a replacement foregrip immediately after receiving the copy of the report.

A pretty cool video from New Zealand Post. Talks of the why, and how.
As previously said, it’s not uncommon for me to find my stuff opened. Though these days with the amount of box recycling that occurs, there’s so many different layers of tape, you wouldn’t know if it was sealed at the factory like that, or re-sealed at a customs house.
In the OP’s situation, surely if someone was peeking in, they would have re-taped up the box.
