2016 528i problems?

Hey, my car is at 38k miles now and hasn't had any issues so far. I been getting the oil changes and regular maintenance done on time because it is still on warranty until March, but what issues would I start seeing now or is there anything I should change like air filters, coolant, timing chain, etc

It has the N20 Engine LCI

From what I've seen, the MY 2016 528 included the improved timing chain guide material so you should be good there. As noted, all you can do is follow the maintenance intervals to the best of your ability. One thing I would recommend is getting your transmission fluid changed at around 60-70K (as recommended by ZF) and your coolant changed regularly. BMW says transmission fluid is lifetime (wrong) and I was told by my dealership that they don't recommend coolant changes "unless there's an issue."..... Oil changes, air filter and cabin filter should be part of routine maintenance. Spark plugs recommended at 60K.

I have a 528IXDrive with 50K on it now. The timing chain may still be an issue on mine. Before your first start of the day, remove your oil cap and lift the chain with a pick. If it moves more than a few millimeters, you may have an issue brewing. Let me know what you find and I take you through the rest.

The second and only other item for me so far are the tie rods. Evidently the steel inner rod chemically fused to the aluminum outer rod though a process called galvanic corrosion. It’s worse than rust. I expressed concern for the rest of this car as the chassis is made primarily of aluminum and all the high stress bolts are steel, but did not receive back any insight. Anyway, the whole tie rod assemble needed to be replaced on both sides for an alignment as they could not break the outer rods free for adjustment. Dealer wanted $600 per side. I did it myself for $120 in parts. Then had it aligned.

I know this was about a year ago but was wondering if your tie rod ends were worn. i have a 16 and the steering is terrible on the highway. Dealer cant find an issue but it feels like piloting a boat.

My tie rod ends were not worn. The car was in for new tires and an alignment. They could not complete the alignment due to the frozen tie rod ends, necessitating the replacement tie rod unit.

Floating is usually a strut issue. I have never experienced that on any BMW. Maybe have some one check out your suspension.

Check out steering connections too. And if your car was ever in an accident, it may not be straight.
