I was lucky to have the regional rep around when I brought it in for its last complementary service. The SA said each headlight cost around $2,000. They have to remove the front fascia to replace, apparently, so its easily a $5,000 charge at the dealer, it seems. Mine were done for misting and delamination.

There are some online that describe a way to reseal them:

My 6 year old 530D developed this bad habit 6 months ago. No amount of airing by removing the big black caps on top of the headlight to using a hair dryer worked. I even lowered silica gel pouches into the area.

But I do have a solution and so far 3 months in works 100%.

Find a friendly body shop who has experience of removing the headlamp. It's tricky and you can break clips easily. I used my local official BMW dealer. They charged me £100 + 20% VAT.

The guy was an ace and in 45 mins had the lamp out and handed to me. He checked for obvious signs but none. Sometimes if the headlamp gets knocked (whilst you are away) the mounting brackets break and let in water. Mine were intact. The car has to stay as they will drop the front bumper. I had a loan car and put the headlamp on the front seat, glass facing roof lining, glad there was a newspaper on the seat as I did not want to soil the free loan car. Very damp news paper after 30 mins. So it had residue water.

Put oven at 50C on fan, place headlamp to dry for 60/90 mins. Do get your partners permission first. Now comes the fix. Got my plumber buddy to help. Buy good quality clear bathroom silicone. But first looking at the headlamp as fitted to the car, gently remove the black trim on top of lamp. Be gentle and it does come off. underneath this is the culprit. Mine was quite damp and dirty at the join. Clean and dry with tissue.
Turn it over and underneath is another black plastic trim. remove and clean underneath.

Now we checked all the joins and planned the next step. go over all joins with a thin layer of silicone, spray with water and then gently work into the the join of the clear plastic and the headlamp body. There are some minor ones so be thorough. then put a bit of silicone on the 2 black trims removed and stick them back.

Return to oven for 60 mins. don't be tempted to go above 50C, in case you want to do a pizza whilst you wait.

Took the lamp back to BMW dealer who was on standby and he fitted it in 75 minutes. and aligned the lamps too.

so far it works even with a pressure cleaner.

excuse the long story but wanted to answer all your questions.

Don't know if I would risk "baking" the wet headlights at 50C.

I would also suggest looking for a good BMW dismantler for used parts, but don't know if f10 headlights all do this.....

Obviously you have a leak somewhere, but the headlamp can easily be dried out without removing it. You will need to remove the trim under the hood to access the top bulb access cover and open the door to remove the bulb access cover in the wheel well, but after doing so, you can use a fan to dry out the headlamp. After doing so, you will need to figure out why the moisture got in. I went through the same thing a week ago and found one of the bulb access covers had come loose somehow. I assume a technician didn't tighten it at some service visit.

I spoke my dealer as I have the same issue and they said that it would not be covered under warranty as he said it was an issue a lot of BMW's have. I find this very strange as it is an issue which should be fixed under warranty.

I have this issue at present and am worried about any potential water damage to the headlights. I have said that if it does not get better, I will push them to do the fix under warranty

I removed the headlight upper round cover to get moister out from daily engines heat cycle. Since it is cold, I don't feel like taking bumper off to remove headlights. I will keep everyone posted and a solution to fix this.

Hi there

You're right that strange, if it's a know problem it should be fixed

Don't back down and stand your ground about this 'known problem'

Inform them of worldwide case even here in the uk and let them know a premium car maker shouldn't have this issue.

Don't pay for it. Tell them to run a puma report at the dealership

This brings a nationwide data to their screen and lets them know how common this issue is and people have had it fixed u set warranty.

man, i got the SAME issue, i even had all types or errors and my turn signal wasnt working, here what i did.
1) open the cover behind the wheel of the affected light
2) use a blow dryer from the outside to take moisture out (very lightly )
3) get two 5g or one 10g silica gel pack and tape it securely onto inside of the cover u screwed off to vent(what you take off to change bulbs)
4) apply silicone sealant to all edges you can(i took my bumper off to be safe)
5) change silica every 3-6 months and ejoy clear headlights again

I am having the same issues, and am also getting a daytime running light malfunction warning sporadically. The halos on my xenon lamps will go out and trigger the malfunction, but if I stop the car and start again, they will work from anywhere from a couple of minutes to up to an hour before going out and triggering a malfunction warning again. Do you think the DRL LED module is on it's last legs? If so, how is that replaced? Will try to the hairdryer and silica packs first and hope that helps.
