Power trunk potential issue?

Hi all,

So my F10 is a 2014 model year and when I would press the close button on the trunk, it would lower itself and then "soft close" itself. You could hear a motor whirring sound during the soft close. This is what I considered normal.

Now today I got the software for my entire car updated (I-step) to the latest 2022 version. What I notice now is that even when the trunk opens it opens slightly faster than it used to and when it closes it closes much faster (you can actually hear the motor working more than before). It then kind of slams close so there is no more that soft close motor whirring sound even.

Any idea what could be the issue? Any way to re-initialize the trunk or is this how it's supposed to be with the latest software?

Thanks in advance!

The "slam close" is the way my 2015 has worked for the last 4+ years. I access my trunk nearly every day, so it hasn't hurt it.

The F chassis SAVs (X5/X6/X3/X4) have several coding threads that solved this issue with these models. My f15 X5’s tailgate would slam shut with a “THUD” which was annoying.

Using EXPERT mode and the Bimmercode app….there are about 8 coding parameters that create the speed the tailgate closes. When we change the last 3 parameters (which slows down the tailgate near the end of its travel…it allows the soft close feature to close the trunk without the “THUD”.

Not sure which control module these parameters would be in a sedan…but here’s a link to multi-page thread on the F15 X5 forum and a video that shows how the coding changes the speed of the tailgate:

Forum thread: https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1789147

In the video below…you can see/hear the “THUNK” when the tailgate closes….then after coding (approx 6 minutes) into the coding…he operates the tailgate and you can see/hear the change the coding did for a softer close without the hard THUNK.
