A shop should be able to punch in B05 to mix but if they can't, PPG code is 926316

Out of interest more than anything else...

I'm curious to know whether our cars could utilise rear brake calipers from NON BMW cars with electronic parking brakes?

I've seen some F30 guys installing calipers off Porsche models and making them work with their BMWs and got me thinking is this feasible for the F10?
I'm guessing it is trial and error, albeit an expensive game of experimenting to find out!

If we could utilise rear calipers from non BMW models, it would overcome the eyesore of the boring looking single piston rears that all F10s have, including the M5, which is worthy of better looking rear calipers as mentioned on here numerous times. There are plenty of good looking rear calipers out there on other makes, which also have electronic parking brakes.

I imagine the answer is a big fat no however, as surely, someone would have thought of this and done it?!

I haven't looked, but is there any BMW-specificness about the electric parking brake, i.e. electronic feedback for the brain boxes? If so, your "big fat no" assumption is likely correct.

The parking brake actuator motor is a pretty generic unit used across a TON of european cars. My uncle's 2015 MB GlS550 for instance had the same unit, albeit with a slightly different plug design. The body itself and the motor's underlying mechanism was the same though.

It seems there is food for thought here!

I imagine some of the big Porsche models like the Macan and Cayenne would have rear electronic parking brakes.

Just searching google and there seems to be loads of companies here in the UK and EU, that supply brackets for such mods, haven't come across any yet for the F10 though.

They do have electronic parking brakes, but it's done in a different way. They essentially use an electronically actuated drum brake for the parking brake. Unfortunately, given how our parking brake works, we can only have single piston floating rears unless you start doing some really extensive modding (e.g. dual rear calipers)

Whats so special about the Porsche calipers?

I an see on the page 2 one that it has a smaller profile, like more rounded which then we could use a 18" wheel probably..
but besides form whats so special with this calipers?

No one is saying there's anything particularly special about them. They just look nice.

Folks are discussing rear caliper options.

Got my upgrade finished:

Front - G11 750i calipers, F01 760i rotors
Rear - F10 M5 calipers/brackets, F01 750/760 rotors

Bought a cheap sandblasting enclosure, cleaned up the G11 calipers, then HVLP sprayed G2 B05 Monte Carlo Blue paint.

Use F10 lines and wire harness brackets on the rear M5 calipers. M5 brake lines will rub on the F10 toe arm, and the M5 parking brake harness bracket won't work.

Rust belt warning: original lines might not come off. Mine is a '16 and the brake fitting nuts were seized on the front lines. I got lucky and just spun the new caliper onto the original line and it tightened up in the correct orientation, but this is not guaranteed to work out. I may cut the original lines off and re-flare the body hard lines at some point.

What did you use for caliper spacers ? did you source anything locally ? I'm trying to avoid stacking washers to get the appropriate spacing.

What? Who would do such a thing?
(Backs slowly out of the room…)

Yeah, I just stacked some washers. 2 x 12mm SS washers per side, measured at 5.2mm thick and works well for now. I'm going to keep my eyes open for some 4-5mm stock and make up some proper spacers at some point… those washers are a pita.
