Hi, I have 2012 f10 with a cic system, and my friend has an older bimmer tech cp-bm12 Multimedia Interface, now the lvds plugs are showing 6 pins, and my system is 4 pin, is there a way I have rewire this to work, or is it worth getting a cic mmi?

I don't recommend going aftermarket unless you really don't care about qulaity. The quality will not be up to BMW standards. All of these units are cheap and made in China. I had something similar in my E39 and the processor that they use is so slow and does not work as intended a lot of times. I compare it to seeing Youtube reviews when someone buys a knockoff Iphone or Samsung phone, where they make the presenation look nice in pictures, but once you get it, you wish you never had ordered it.

I had Bimmertech on the NBT, but sold my unit as I was not happy with the quality of the picture for $600.

I finally ended up going NBT Evo ID6 and it is probably my favorite mod I've done to the car as it's something I use every day. The picture is sooo crisp and clear, much better than my wive's 2018 Q5, which was good to begin with when it was introduced. Not to mention you get touch screen and BMW quality.

I had similar experience with Bimmertech and their front view camera is $50 camera they sell for $250

I agree that NBT Evo is the best, but there is also the question of cost, $220-$240 for Android based system, $650 for Bimmertech MMI and Bimmertech sells NBT Evo retrofit for F10 for $2,200

Go buy the carplay box from aliexpress for like $300. One of them is the exact same box bimmertech sells.

Software is pretty different though. Bimmertech one has some improvements that have yet to trickle down to the other boxes. This is probably the most comprehensive thread on the topic:

I paid around $1,600-$1,700. This includes the screen, NBT Evo, regular I-Drive touch controller and coding. All items were in like new condition. IMO, that extra $1,000 over just the module is worth every penny.

Ended up upgrading to Cermaic I-drive controller which I'm not including in the cost as it was not needed, but I wanted to have it match the rest of the interior.

I need to replace my screen and I feel overwhelmed on where to start! Idk if I should just replace it or replace it with an upgrade.

I do know, however, that I'm not a fan of the G30 screen. It looks really outta place.

I am not sure that Bimmertech's improvements justify almost 3x the price. The hardware is exactly the same

I have a feeling it won't look as clean on CIC given the lower resolution compared to NBT

Quick update for those interested. Forums members over at the F30 side managed to basically unlock the software DRMs that the manufactures have started placing. You can buy the Aliexpress units and run the Bimmertech software on it now, along with other various improvements, via custom firmware.

I believe you could upgrade the screen to the large and code the resolution. Obviously this doesn't just add any features, just gets rid of ugly small screen.

The thing is I have some dead pixels on my current screen, assuming from the previous owner. I'll need to replace it as well. I'm just not sure if any upgrades will be worth it.

Definitely bimmercode via expert mode but this info was from the f30 forums, have not seen anyone with f10 do it.
