And so starts the journey to Ceramic Coating
I've had my car for about 9 months now, and have yet to do a proper detail.
Finally getting to do this. Here will be my process Tar-X on Wheel Wells and other parts that had a bit of tar. Sonax on Wheels and Rinse Wash - Foam Cannon with some Meguiars Auto Soap. Rinse Hand Wash - 2 bucket method with the same soap. Dry Decon With Iron-X Rinse with power washer Clay Bar - with quick detail as a lube Wash again with Foam Cannon with Dawn Dish Washing Detergent. Today was Prep. Tomorrow i'll polish with jeff's werkstatt polish on a polish pad and my PC and apply the Wolfgang Uber Ceramic Coating. IF i'm not satisfied with the Jeff's Werkstatt then i'll most probably use the WolfGang Total Swirl Remover polish with a polishing pad. Once car has been polished then i'll wipe down with the paint prep spray included with the ceramic coating. More Pics to come Tomorrow. Here is the Iron-X working - hard to tell on a Grey Car - it turns purple as it reacts, I also scrubbed it down with a wash mitt. Last Step - Foam Cannon with Dawn Detergent Step 2 done Polish with Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover and Polishing Pad, had to use cutting pad with some compound on the trunk which had a few swirls. Tomorrow i'll apply the Ceramic Coating After polishing the hood After polishing the entire car and pulling it out into the sunlight - the space grey really POPS.....my wife saw the car and she said it looked new! Coating application tomorrow with more pics to follow. Last edited by xxpanipuri; 10-10-2016 at 08:28 PM.. |

So after a total of 12 hrs i'm finally done!
Applying the coating was the easiest part. the prep work was killer! However, according to the manufacturer the coating should last 3 years. maybe even longer depending on how long you maintain, but since it only came out last year we'll have to see how long it lasts. it needs a full 12 hrs to cure, and no water can touch the car for 7 days. Applied the coating to all parts of the car including windows/plastic/headlights/taillights. Will do the wheels at a later date. All this work but the result is WELL WORTH IT...the paint looks so wet!! Never thought Space grey could pop like this. Better pics will come soon enough. Thanks for posting, looking forward to the after pics. I need to read up on detailing as my techniques are very basic compared to many on here!

Black car swirled to shit by crappy car washes....did a major paint correction on it and it still looks good today (my father in law now drives it) my 5 isn't swirled to badly, so just a proper washing/decon/clay/polish should be a good prep for the coating.... |

I'm in the same boat i'd never own a black car, but with these new ceramic coatings i'd highly consider it. if you have the car paint corrected and coated, and then maintained properly then you'd be good!

Thanks for all the info! And yeah, Im loving the space grey / mocha setup. Ive stuck with greys and silvers on my last few cars, as black looks dirty the second you drive it after washing! Only had the car a few weeks so its good to get some tips from someone working on the same car/color combo. Hope the rest of the process goes smoothly for you

best part of grey is no matter how dirty it is it still looks clean from afar! This is after polishing and sealing with jeff's werkstatt acrylic products. |

Great looking car as well, I never got a chance to get the e39, went straight from e34 to e60. But the e39 is by far one of the better looking 5ers. Tomorrow I'll be stocking up on detailing supplies, you've got me motivated! Thanks again
