Is switching from Sport to Eco-Pro bad?

I normally drive in sport mode in my f10, and then once I hit the right speed I switch it to eco pro to let the rms drop under 1k and coast. And then I switch to comfort for maintaining the speed.

Is it bad to switch modes like this or is it good, I feel like by doing this it helps fuel consumption as well as getting to drive in sport.

It does not hurt your car. I normally drive eco pro around town. When I’m in the highway, I leave it in comfort mode.

If you're looking for good gas mileage why did you get a BMW?? Driving in eco pro takes almost every bit of enjoyment out it! If you actually enjoy driving, put it in sport once in a while

I do the opposite. From Klamath Falls to Fresno, in ECO, my 535i achieved a hand-calculated 34mpg. The fastest I went was around 75.

If you're just cruising along on the highway for a good distance, why not bump up the mpg? I personally only ever switch to eco-pro if i'm going to be on certain stretches of open highway where cops like to hide every 5 miles. Keeps me out of trouble

I cruise at 80mph and at that speed, eco pro does not save any fuel for me. I tried to calculate by hand and it ended up the same as driving in comfort mode. I drive 150 miles each day so I would use eco pro to save fuel if it works at 80mph. For 75mph or less, it does save fuel. I have tried that and it saves about 15 miles for every 150 miles that I drive.

It is just my cruising preference. Work pays for my gas so I don’t really care about saving gas. If I want to save gas, I can get a diesel 5 series, hybrid or an electric car.

Doesn't harm the car and I don't recall there are any special instructions from BMW.

I remember my previous MB would want you to stop the car before switching between comfort and sport mode. Lol, as if I ever did that (or anyone else for that matter). I don't see those instructions with my wife's current MB - probably figured out that it was a stupid ask in the past.

It is weird that over 75 ECO has no effect. The blue mpg and display of how many miles "saved" grey-out after 76mph.

There are single-lane stretches of the 395 (in Kommiefornyastan) "requiring" passing to get around slow cars and trucks. I would run in ECO and switch on-the-fly to sport to make the pass, then back to ECO.

IIRC 55-65mph are the most efficient speeds, so it makes sense that the eco display tops out at 75. You can also adjust the ceiling for eco down from 75, 75 is just the highest it goes.
