Today's timepiece, designed by Richard Sapper in 1978.

It has a heavy steel case, and original elastic style band that would fit over a pit crew's suit.

Absolutely. I believe I've had my first 51-30 since the brand originated. That watch has worked flawlessly and it's been through tons of wear and tear. Truly a big, good looking and durable watch.

I've been spending lots of time on the various G80 threads and stumbled across this Off-Topic section...it is pretty cool seeing other passions that people have outside of BMW.

Daily wear seems to be the Samsung Galaxy Active 2, but I try to mix it up with others in my collection.

Such watches are called homages . Pagani Design makes such watches like that .Well, I think it's a wiser idea to buy those than replica watches .
Even such legit watch manufacturers derive such designs clues from Rolex this is why I don't feel bad about buying a homage watch or buyers remorse later
