Btw, I used to valet so I can back into a spot perfectly on the first try .

I'll back in, and I've ben doing it for years, unless loading groceries could be an issue. Like you said, one has to back in or out, and with the plethora of SUVs, trucks & trucks lifted to Mars. I'd much rather nose out slowly than try and back out, even with the camera, between these behemoths. Those that take a long time to back in also take a long time to back out. I've waited longer for someone to back out than back in.

I am slightly annoyed but also curious about perceiving a shift of behavior over the past year. Is it just me thinking more people are backing in?

We went to the Renaissance Faire in San Diego Balboa Park some years back. Parking was non-existent and a bunch of people had parked on the grass near one of the museums. I figured they couldn't tow 100+ cars, so I joined them. They didn't tow all those cars, but we all sure got ticketed! That was one expensive visit!

Where I live in S. Florida very few people back in. I think it's because they can't see over the steering wheel lol.

Go ahead and back in if you can do it in one shot, but coming back from lunch at work I sat there in the lot as some lady in a Ram truck had to try 5 different times to back the thing into a spot.

I seldom back in to a parking space with my truck but I ALWAYS back in to spaces with curbs when I'm driving the M4CS. I hate splitter repairs!

There's a safety metric related to reverse parking.

We are required to reverse park at the plant and at customer sites. Reverse parking off site is recommended. However, off site reverse parking we're advised to use good judgment determining if setting up to reverse park adds a collision risk to vehicles behind us.

I can't laugh at this one right now, because some 16-year-old with a learner's permit killed himself driving into a parking lot light pole down near NYC earlier this week.....
