DEF leak at engine ?

Hello!

Can anyone give me advice on where the DEF could be leaking from the engine?

Went to do my oil change last weekend and came across quite a lot of crystallized def leaking from the metal splash shield under the engine.

I did not remove this shield - or what I assume is a shield? But from up top in the engine bay on the passenger side back I have significant buildup. It was caked around the oil drain cover (small black circle with finger holes directly below the engine oil drain bolt)

Is the DEF injected separately into the engine from the diesel?

On a separate note - why is the bottom of the engine coated with dampening fabric?

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

I go through one cube per oil change at 5k miles or so. Haven’t noticed much of an uptick on that in the 2 years I’ve owned the vehicle.
