How does the car monitor the tyre pressure?
I haven't received my car yet, but i'm searching for winter wheels in the meantime. I'm wondering if the tyre pressure monitoring defines which rims can be used? It might be a stupid question but I can't really understand how the car can see the pressure without having some kind of probe in the wheels? is there anything special thing I need to look for when selecting wheels/tyres?

Hello Sonic,
Thank you for the explanation. I just read up on the TPMS system and I'm a bit curious about how to manage two sets of complete summer/winter wheels if the sensor has to be swapped for each active set of wheels. How do you guys manage that - two sets of sensors so we don't have to pull off the tires for each change? :S Last edited by NeoCortex; 09-26-2013 at 01:31 PM.. |

Two sets. More $, but much easier.

You will save some time too by having a set of sensors in both of your wheel sets because you save yourself a trip to the tire shop to have the sensors swapped out from one set of wheels to the other.

I'd go a step farther: if you're not going to have a second set of sensors, you can omit the separate winter wheels (unless you need or want a different size) -- you're going to have to mount and dismount tires twice a year anyhow.

I would like the easiest setup. So if that's having two complete sets of wheels with sensors installed then I would prefer that. IF that means I can just swap the wheels in my garage instead of having to go to the shop twice per year? If the tires aren't removed then re-balancing shouldn't be necessary right? |
