Anyone have a lift?
I am about to purchase a lift for my home garage so I can park my 535 under my project car. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm obviously not wanting to spend a ton... this is what I'm looking at:

I wouldn't park your project car on a 2 post, it's not very safe and you will wear the suspension by drooping it all the time. If you're trying to find a parking solution, a 4 post is a lot better. In fact, some manufactures will void the warranty if you using 2 posts as parking lifts.
The lift you linked is pretty good from what I hear. JerryRigEverything installed the 5 ton version (https://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Atlas-BP10000) and he seems to like it. His install video:

Thanks for that video. I wonder why they didn't just re-enforce or re-pour the concrete WHERE the posts were going vs. doing the whole slab. It's scary to think that until I actually drill the holes I won't know for sure if my slab is inconsistent or not.
As far as the suspension getting stretched and using it as storage... well, I'm not sure I'll have suspension for quite awhile on this car - it's a project. And once it's done, I won't need to store it in the air per se. Plus it's an e30 and will be extremely light so I wouldn't worry about the lift itself especially when it'd be resting on the safety locks. That video made me excited about the lift, it looks very nice! |

I would say check for automotive equipment vendors in your area, chances are they have used models of brand new lifts (Rotary, Challenger etc). This is import because, like anything else, lifts require maintenance and finding parts for the lesser know, and likely “imported” brands, can be very difficult.
I just found a 2010 10,000lb Rotary Lift for $1850 installed! Deals to be had for sure on quality used units.

Search for “automotive equipment sales“ on Google. Most local companies that sell and service lifts also have used units available. Even if they aren’t very close by, they might be willing to drive out, possibly with a surcharge.
I actually found mine through Craigslist, however they are also one of the dealers/servicers. Check Facebook marketplace too. I’ve been all over the place bargain hunting to try to outfit my full-service shop. |

It's just a meme:
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/do-you-even-lift I think he did the whole slab just for peace of mind. I personally would do the whole slab, I don't trust the idea of only reinforcing the area under the posts, especially in my own garage.

I just talked with GSE and they said this CAN be used for storage as long as the arms are resting on the safety locks and not resting on the hydraulics to hold it up, you are fine.
Also, they said if I hammer drill and the slab is less than 4" I only need a 4x4 section at 3k psi - I don't even need to do rebar re-enforcement. So that is doable vs. doing the WHOLE slab. |

If I go that far I'll spend the extra 10 bucks on rebar

So it begins. I just made room in my electrical panel for the 2 pole 220 run that I'll need for the lift. I'll put an outlet at the lift motor so I can use that same 220 for a welder.
Made an adjustment to the garage door so I can get clearance for the lifted car. Needs some tweaking but I was more proving to myself I could get the door up high enough. GSE said the lift will be ready for pick up here soon and this is going to make working on the car SOOO much easier. |

Nice! Drill a pilot hole yet? Are they doing the install or are you handling that? It’s pretty straightforward but my guys showed up with laser level setups, chalk-lined all over the place, definitely better/quicker job than I would have done.

I have not done that yet. I'm going to to wait and see what happens the day I go to install. If I drill and I don't have 4" then I'll just stop and pour my 4x4 footers... lol. It'll be what it'll be!!!
I'm going to do the install myself. Do you have pics of your lift installed? |
