“Driver restraint malfunction” after changing steering

I changed the steering wheel on my 2016 528i from a Sport steering to the M-Sport. Both are dual stage airbags. However I started the car and everything works fine and I get a driver restraint system malfunction. Is it just an error or is the airbag actually not working? Airbag was brand new and I plugged it in easy. Do I have to code the error out

CORRECTION: Looks like I had a three stage airbag so I have to code it to be dual stage now

Did you unplug the battery when doing the swap?
Did you plug all the connectors in and secure?

Reset the adaptation values....that may fix your issue as the car learns the new adaptations.... i just reset mine and made a video...see the link below...hope it works for you.
you will need ISTAD for it with a ENET cable and a laptop.
see the video below i just posted on my channel.

I have the same issue. Anyone found a solution?

I upgraded the steering of my F10 and I got an arrow drivers restraints malfunction”
Does anybody know how I can fix this error? I tried to clear it but it’s a permanent error.

I am considering changing steering sensor angle, do you think it’s necessary?

With this error do I need to change my airbag?
