confusion over suspension options
I've done a lot of searching but my head is spinning a little bit regarding EDC, DHP, etc. I've determined that my car does not have DHP but I'm not sure about EDC. Do all F10s have EDC?
I guess what I am ultimately trying to accomplish is: I like being able to change the suspension from Comfort to Sport mode on my 2014 550 xdrive. I'm not sure if this means I have EDC or if that is something else. But I want to drop the suspension and get better handling. I understand that this means I will probably lose the comfort mode dampening. If it has to go, then I'll live with that. But then I'm reading things like I will also have to get a kit that has an EDC delete? I think I just want to get some lowering springs but it would also be nice if the Comfort/Sport modes still did something (with the suspension). Does such a setup exist without going full coilovers? Right now I'm mostly looking at Dinan springs, ACS, or H&R |

i have a 2014 550i with EDC and I swapped out my stock springs at 18k miles with ACS springs, and have never ever looked back, they removed the floaty feeling from the factory...without being too stiff, i also did the dinan shockware this summer, and the combo for me is perfect.
no canyon carver by any means, but it can hold its own, and its comfy for the family as well on long trips... |

You probably don’t have edc and so you can actually go all out and get coil overs. If you had dhp I would have recommended springs And the Dinan shockware. Def makes a difference

DHP, that means active roll bars in addition to EDC, is 2VA.

I guess I must not have EDC then. When I switch modes between Comfort and Sport, I am guessing that it is some other form of dampening going on and not EDC?
If I get springs will I lose that functionality? |

I don't think drive mode affects the suspension at all in the F10 550s unless you have dynamic dampers. It's just throttle, steering and transmission.

This is great information folks. thanks! I guess it's a little misleading when BMW calls it "Comfort" mode instead of "Normal" or something like that. "Comfort" is more often associated with suspension and never associated with throttle response or steering.
the bottom line is I guess I can just shop for a good set of springs and get the drop I want without having to worry about losing functionality or coding out EDC or anything like that. Thanks guys! |

It feels sportier because Sport makes the throttle response faster.

With my 535i, ended up going with H&R Springs and they dropped it perfectly. Photos on this thread: https://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1293245
