Question about Upper Control Arm BJ replacement

So both of my CV boots are torn.. Watched a YouTube video of a guy removing an axle from his 528 and on order to get to his axle, he removed the upper control arm (wishbone) from the pinch bolt. I attempted this and it was an absolute nightmare. The bolt actually came out rather easy. The hard part was separating the ball joint from the spindle. Several hours of messing with it with an air hammer and various other tools, I finally separated it with a pickle fork at the cost of damaging the boot for the Ball joint. Anyone know if the ball joint can be replaced on these or do I need to buy a new control arm? Also, is there an easier way to remove it for future reference? Thanks
