CIC and CarPlay?
Has anyone successfully added Apple CarPlay to their CIC Navi? I have an 11' 535i with the CIC Navi system and would like to add car play

I would like to know this as well. From what I have seen, it looks like most have swapped to Android headunit for this feature.

So after research I realized that this kit is sold from kiesmotorsports? But for double the price than the eBay asking price? Not sure if it's the same kit and what it offers though. If someone could chime in that would be great

You could try checking avinusa. I know they have an android screen retrofit. Do not have it yet. Will be looking to buy in the near future.

I got this one, which is similar to the one you linked, works by the same concept.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/2019-Afterm...72.m2749.l2649 I got in the mail and installed it. So here's the thing with it, Is it worth it? You can decide that for yourself, but to me it wasn't. The audio comes through aux jack, so you have to plug in an aux jack to the port in the console from the CarPlay box system, and you HAVE to use a separate mic in order for the phone functioning to work. If you like to use the recent phone history on the cluster through the steering wheel scroll button, thats not accessible. However everything else works fine with aspects to CarPlay. Maps, waze, music etc. You do have to connect to a separate BT source in order for the CarPlay to work. The resolution isn't that great, its average compared to BMW's CarPlay in newer cars. If you reallllly want CarPlay, then this is a good alternative. Install is very simple, and totally reversible. The main reason I wasn't sold on it was that it froze up for a few seconds and that really bothered me, especially when the original CIC system never ever froze up with me. But this one is wireless, you don't have to use the USB. |

Just wanted to add to this thread...I installed the wakaa.us wireless CarPlay MMI for my early 2012 535i with CIC last month. Looks exactly like the Bimmertech (NBT) model at a fraction of the cost. Probably the same as Andream and the others too.
The install is pretty easy, it just took me a lot of trial and error since the instructions they originally posted were wrong wrong wrong. They since put the improved instructions on their website and for the most part I got it up and running with a few exceptions; the wireless connection has been unreliable so I just use USB. I also can't get the OEM mic working so I keep my Phone connected to the car Bluetooth connection. They do include a long aux out cable that you run along with the CIC controller connector through the center console to the aux in jack. There is a nice gap below the radio into the console where you can easily run the wires through. That way you can use sound through aux. I prefer using aux because my Bluetooth audio was getting more unstable with later iOS updates on my iPhone. I would use the BT 4.0 in the MMI if I could get the wireless working better. Another good tip is that the MMI fits nicely vertically behind the screen, with enough clearance to not block the center vents. Just push it up and to the right and use some cable ties to strap it to the trim that runs across that space. No need to take out the glovebox. I put all the cables into that gap and run the USB connector into the glovebox. Wakaa support were also pretty responsive through email and even set me a replacement lvd cable I needed super fast.[IMG][/IMG] |

I say save the $350 bucks. Or go for a complete android 9.0 screen replacement with a carplay dongle if you want to spend that much. High resolution touch screen is a much better upgrade. If I could do it again I would research CIC Android screens to see if they are available. The carplay dongles work well. |

Thank you for the information post above!
I install mine today along with aftermarket rear view camera. I have a CIC system. I am happy with the outcome. The wireless works well to me. It looks like my phone can pair with BMW and Carplay Bluetooth individually. The Carplay system use the AUX audio and Ext MIC for Caplay sound while the hand free call use the car build in MIC. I ordered the kit from https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000...6c2d1c49yRNJ0E. Well, it does not have any instruction and support . I have to do homework for the installation. Update: My car build in MIC works. No EXT MIC needed.
