Gov't inspection? What is it?
So, I been reading about how you guys don't wanna mod because of gov't inspection...uhhh..what is it? I haven't had my bike inspected and it uses a full race system that has been debaffled (which is a nono).
what are these gov't inspections and what can we not do? or should we be careful of? Is it just test of illegal aftermarket mods? Like turbos etc? |

I think any mods is considered illegal unless inspected by Transport Dept. Since some of these parts are TUV approved and equivalent, most likely will passed but no one will bother taking their cars to inspect. There is a write up in apple daily a few weeks back about mods.
HK cops usually will cite Japanese cars (MK look ), European cars they are more relaxed.

I'm not a lawyer but..
All road going vehicles must pass a certain government standard, so any after-market modifications which have no been subjected to tested, can be hauled in by cops in severe cases, or in minor cases ticketed (not sure exact details). What the government test is, i have no idea, whether or what they actually test, or how one can 'pass' it. All vehicles must be brought to gov testing center for mandatory inspection at the 7th yr of vehicle age. 'Illegal modification' is changes to structural -suspension, exhaust, engine etc. 'Cosmetic' modications like wrapping/painting/ decorating are permitted (change in vehicle color requires licence modification) etc. Your bike would have been illegal, but enforcement is like illegal building structures in hong kong, random and political/social-seasonal If you get caught racing, your bike will be towed, if you drive aggressively with a cop in bad mood, you might get cited (court, vehicle test ordered?) So everything is toeing the line, if you don't do dangerous things nothing will happen .. if u do dangerous things, better be legal so you can't get caught for breaking the law. |

very detail grimmy.
True. But you know those test centers for 7+ years mandatory test, the will give you a pass as long as you paid them and nothing major. Also, that write up I mentioned said some cars took in for govt inspection to test the mod parts. Since those are TUV approved so eventually passed. But who will bother.

One thing though is about those SUV with those hugh bars bumper guards. Those are really killers. Many of you know bumpers (even aftermarket ones, not sure about those fate ones) have to test for pedestrian collision safety or something. Those bar stuffs when crashed into people will definitely smash people into pieces.

I have looked closely after you mentioned those rear reflectors. I saw many stock cars without them. New and old cars. Depends on which model and brand. I am not sure they are mandatory. BTW, mine are painted now.

Don't think they can cite you with parking tickets. Only with moving violation I think.
