Spied: 5-Series GT Receives M-Sport Treatment
BIMMERPOST NEWS Spied: 5-Series GT Receives M-Sport Treatment We've just spied a 5-series GT M-sport for the first time. It appears that the 5-series GT is receiving a sporty upgrade with the usual M-sport upgrades - more aggressive front bumper, sideskirts, and rear bumper. The only thing remaining covered is the front bumper. The M-sport wheels seen on the prototype are from the 7-series M-sport. The M-sport package will surely come with the usual set of interior enhancements as well. Attachment 543150 Some regular 5GT photos for comparison: |

I dont know, I cant blame BMW for doing this since they didnt get the sales they wanted... But there are some things you just cant fix, even with an m-sport package. I'm not getting any hopes up, but I am glad to see them at least trying to address the issue of its poor looks. Time will tell, and its good BMW isnt sitting on their asses too much.

I think it looks good, I have always liked the looks of the 5GT, now if they built this with the twin turbo 2.0 diesel from the 123D I would buy it in an instant, however making it 6 and 8 cylinders only doomed it in Europe.

I like the GT but only problem is, for that price i'd buy something else, i dont feel old enough to want a cruiser! I'm a BMW fan so i want something sporty, if i want a cruiser ill just buy a second hand bentley GT for 65k

It looks better but not sure if they will sell more. This is quite a fail series imo.

...as a last ditch effort to sell them...
Better, yes, but still no replacement for the 5er Touring, which, BTW, the f11 murders the previous 5er Touring in aesthetics...

I love this car too, tempted to make it my next BMW. Depends what the next X5 looks like. I am really pulling for the 5GT to make a turnaround. I see a lot of them here in Los Angeles.

BMW really blew it with the 5 GT. Compare it to the incredibly beautiful Audi A7 which is very similar in most respects. The 5 Gt could have easily been as beautiful. BMW intentionally uglied it up so that it would drive people into the upcoming grossly over priced 6 Series 4 door Gran Coupe. The Gran coupe will attempt to compete with the $25,000 cheaper Audi A7. The Audi A7 is here now and is getting great reviews. BMW dropped the 5er sport wagon in the US in a mindless attempt to drive those BMW Enthusiasts into the 5GT. What happened is that those BMW Enthusiasts in the US desiring a 5er wagon took a pass on the ugliest BMW in recent history and bought the MB wagon. Then Audi comes out with the incredibly beautiful Audi A7 making gross design shortfalls of the 5GT even more apparent. They price at a very reasonable number in relation to the 6er Gran Coupe and Audi has a huge hit. Meanwhile BMW looks for ways to ditch the 5 GT because the dealers won't stock them because very few people want an expensive, ugly car even if it is a BMW with a large cabin. BMW has made great product decisions in the recent past, however the 5 GT is a gross blunder. The upcoming Gran Coupe is being undercut by the beautiful, fairly priced Audi A7. Plus it will probably draw some sales away from the current 5 er for those who desire a really cool looking car.

Okay, if you think the A7 is incredibly beautiful then you're entitled to your opinion, I personally disagree. Want a tourer.. did you buy one when you could? if you did you seem to be in the vast minority! The 5GT sales for last year have already beaten the best year of sales that the 5 wagon (E61) had... you might not like it, but the fact is, americans don't get offered the wagon now because they never really bought them in the first place. The 5GT offers greater space and comfort than the A7 for the same kind of price, the 6er Gran Coupe won't offer the same practicality that either the A7 or 5GT offer, but I doubt it ever intended too - it won't compromise its looks, style or handling for the sake of practicality in the way that the A7 and 5GT do... (Aside from the A7's crushingly dull, played-out and entirely predictable styling it also suffers from a disproportionate rear end, as the 5GT does also). I think the bottom line here is that you like the A7, and you don't like the 5GT... I think thats all you need to say, the rest of your post is kind of irrelevant. |
