Hi folks,

first post here. I'm looking to upgrade my wifes 2016 535i radio for Christmas so that it can have apple carplay. I'm aware that there are devices I can install behind the radio to add the carplay funtion. However I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to replace the whole radio and upgrade it to include apple carplay? Reason I'm looking to do that is because the screen on her current radio has seen better days and needs to be replaced anyways.

If anyone has any recomendations I would greatly appreciate it.

I’m looking to perform the same upgrade

So far my research is telling me bimmer techs mmi pro device is the save bet.

But I’m finding the xtron units from china would be sweet just not sure if the dealer or audio quality would take a hit.

My local car stereo shop tells me their is a software only option as well but I’m not sure on details.

Upgrading to NBT EVO is the best option. More expensive option but it’s worth it.

MMI is a cheaper option but some doesn’t like it and ended up removing.
