Donut Tire Compatible With 245/40/19
I understand that spare tire size questions are often asked, I could not find any discussion addressing this specific matter.
550i xdrive all 4 tires are 245/40r19. Have anyone used a donut as spare with this tire combination? If you did what size donut have you used? How did it work? Most bimmer owners may know that the f10 series do not come with spare tire. I have not found any 19” donut or emergency tire under 60, if they exist, I have not found. I would like to have a donut/emergency tire when driving long distance. Have you used 17” or 18” or at least know what size donut would be more of a match for 245/40/19? I would like to know from people that have actually used or may be better informed on the subject than I. Any input will be appreciated Thanks |

Try this site:
http://www.bimmerzone.com/BMW_Perfor...T-F10-KIT.html I think they have what you are looking for. Recently purchased one of these spare tire kits for my 2015 650iGC, works perfectly for me. |

Thanks
I have come across it prior to posting my question, but it is 18”, my set is 19”.
Most 550i come with 18”, but my set is 19”. What size are yours? Have you actually used the 18” spare with 245/40 19” tires? Thanks |

You are possibly overthinking this. I checked the link from mgattmch, and the donut tire that is listed should work for you, showing a diameter difference of 0.6% with the stock wheel / tire combinations on the F10. This means that the donut tire and wheel combo, even when the wheel is 18", works on your car vis-a-vis the other wheel/tire sizes. Just don't expect to run long distances on this donut.

As other mentioned you have few options.
In my case i went with the following setup for my 2011 528i and worked for me. I had to build my own as I couldn't find anything ready to go here in Toronto Canada, and I didn't want to pay for shipping from US otherwise I would probably get a spare setup from the link posted above. You'll need to check brake clearance on your car though as your car has larger brakes than mine. Also you can use tire size comparison to check tire radius difference https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/ Small variations are acceptable. For example difference between your tires 245/40/R19 and 135/90 R17 which I got is only 0.4% which should be OK for short distance travel with lower speeds. I got a used spare rim from E60 (it has the same bolt pattern as our F10s) and I used 135/90R17 rubber for this spare rim. Original spare rubber for e.60 is 135/80R17 which has a smaller rolling diameter than our F10s.( Based on tire size calculator its around 4.7% smaller). Thats why I had to get a different rubber 135/90R17 I also got 15mm spacer and extended wheel bolts for the spare which was needed to clear brakes on my car. As I mentioned you'll need to check if this setup will work for yours. Overall cost for me was 50CAD for used spare rim + 10CAD for used rubber + 80CAD for spacer and bolts. So total was 140CAD. PS I'm using 225/55R17 for winter tires and 245/45R18 for summer tires. Some people also suggested to use spare wheel from certain model year X3, however I didn't explore that option Last edited by OrcaPod; 01-30-2019 at 01:25 PM.. |

Why go with a donut?
The difference being minimal in terms of space saving since you will also need a low profile Jack and wrenching instrument, I would just go full size spare. |

I see your point, but in reality is not exactly correct.
F10 trunk is quite small for a mid size Sedan, a 19” tire occupies more than 1/3 of the trunk and totally limits the remainder space left. If one is traveling there is no room for a 20” luggage, the luggage will have to be much smaller. If more people are traveling with you, forget additional luggages, no room at all. I am mentioning this based on a recent experience. There is a small compartment for low profile jack under the mat at least mine has, usually also fits under the donut, the jack is not at all a hoarder. Unless one does not plan to make significant use of the trunk, I agree with you. |

You would have to find the perfect Jack to fit into that compartment.
My point is the donut has the same diameter and at least half the width. So you're losing a little height. As far as luggage, if by yourself or one other you could lower rear seats. Most have this option. Traveling with four, even an empty trunk won't cut it. Granted any scenario depends on the size of the luggage. |
