I tried entering the VIN on BMW.com - that doesn't work

I tried downloading a .bin file and the car doesn't like it (says it's out of date or something)

I have an MMI unit that I was thinking of installing, but kind of reconsidered that the options that replace the screen would probably be better since the screen is old and the iDrive (wheel controller) is sort of hard to use. It's stubborn, doesn't move easily, etc. I've seen that you can replace the iDrive wheel with a newer type, hopefully that would work better and won't be too challenging - I'll look into it.

Any suggestions which way to go?

The thing that's upsetting is connecting a phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max) with USB through the center USB port and often having connectivity issues when trying to play music - it's frustrating, so I think something needs to be done, which is why I was trying to update the CIC system.

Thanks everyone. I'll exchange the MMI I bought (and didn't install yet) if it's best option rather than a screen-type unit - I wouldn't mind something that's higher resolution and touch capable although I don't mind lower res and the iDrive if there are good fixes for it.

I think you already have one of the latest versions for the car. Why don't you look for enabling native bluetooth audio? There are several threads here and on the F30 forum. I did it and it works brilliant.
