GPS navigation going the wrong direction

Hi guy! Recently my car's GPS navigation has a problen pointing to the wrong direction. When I drive north, it goes north west, the farther I drive the farther wrong way it goes. I searched the forum and saw a discussion mentioning a guideline issued by BMW how to use ISTA to calibrate the GPS. I will give a try to see if the issue can be solved, it not maybe I need to change the GPS antenna. My headunit is not factory installed NBT ID4, I upgraded it to NBT EVO ID5/6 and using an aftermarket GPS antenna as my car did not come with navigation professional option. I guess probably the aftermarket GPS antenna goes bad. Any idea/experience you guys can share? Thanks!

Did you use this to connect your GPS antenna? It is required to get signal from your trunk to your head unit when going to EVO

No. I use something like this and it is fix in somewhere in the dashboard, however, you know, it is made in China. It had heen working fine for the past 4-5 years and recently working wierd after I retrofit kafas. As the navigation does not working fine, the SLI also works not stable as sometimes works fine and sometimes does not work. I guess the SLI is not able to get speed info from navigation and the speed sign in Hong Kong is not as standard as Europe or USA, the kafas camera may not precisely recognize the road sign all the time.

Either that antenna is defective or it’s location is a problem. Try putting it up near your roof to see if it help. I would try the wire conversion method. That way, you don’t have extra hardwares in the car and it’s mounted high from the factory.

Thanks for opnion! The antenna is using the blue Fakra blue head, so it does not need conversion, if I understand corrrect what you mean. I will try to replace it with a new one to see if it works. It is very cheap like US$20.

I could not find any workable method in ISTA to recalibrate the GPS, I also noticed the guideline issued by BMW was in 2013, it is absolutely obsceleted. No work out.

I meant to use the cable I suggested and extend factory GPS antenna in the trunk where the old telematics box is up to the new HU. New ATM doesn’t accept it so you run an extension from there to the new HU. Hope that clarify the reason for that cable.

Thanks for help! Just for update, I today replaced the GPS antenna with a new one bought from Taobao, and the issue still stays. I noticed that the GPS sometimes can correctly position where I was when I started my car before drove away. Then it wrongfully went in wrong direction, like I was going north it went west and kept going that way. When I turned the wheel it also followed but in the wrong direction. Now I think it is not anything to do with GPS antenna as I put the antenna just below the dashboard under the center speaker trim cover (I don't have center speaker in the dashboard), it should be receiving signal very well in that location. As it keeps going wrong direction, now I think it probably has something to do with compass that is integrated in ICM. However, there is no fault code in ICM, so I think it is possibly a coding issue or I need to change setting in ICM FDL coding. Any idea? Thanks!

Just an update: Today I FDL coded KAFAS to CAM only from fusion, then the navigation came back to normal. Therefor I think something messed up the navigation by the fusion setting in KAFAS.
