Loud vent fan / motor?

Anyone have this? I get at maximum setting the fan or air noise is a given, but it sounds like an old car with a bad wheel bearing. A constant rumbling noise at 2/3 to max fan setting.

Sounds like something is wrong, my fan is very quiet with no rumbling noise.

How old is car and how many miles? Did this issue just start? Could be a worn motor or possibly debris blocking the fresh air intake which can motor to strain. Older F10s had a screen at the fresh air intake that would disintegrate over time.

when was last time cabin microfilter was changed?

It's a 2013 got 45k miles on it. Regular dealer service to date... do they not do this as part of the maintnence?

kraut, mine did this when I got it. Warranty replaced it.

From what dealer told me, the little foam filter thing degrades and falls into the squirrel cage. A good cleaning MIGHT fix the problem. They replaced my blower motor.
$250 parts, $375 labor (should be ~2.5-3 hours I think).

They claimed it was a leaf in the squirrel cage and it was 375 just to clean it out, not under warranty. Is it possible to get a leaf in there? They said they scoped it to find it.

LOL, this is funny (not really). Do the dealerships read from a pre-written script? I have a 2011 535i in which my HVAC was making a low pitched rumbling noise, and they told me the exact same thing: "you got a leaf caught in there". Like you, I get my car serviced regularly, how could they overlook this? How does a little leaf cause all this drama? What was your outcome?

Glad you got yours fixed. They are giving me the runaround, and told me it'd cost me $814; that's almost $200 more than what your cost was!!!!

I had that problem with my blower motor noise. As everyone said, the filter is gone and there is something in the squirrel cage. I bought a new filter cover for about $50 from the dealer. After watching two youtube video's, I attempted the job and finished it in about an hour. Yes, just two little leaves in the cage. Blew it out, put it all back together and it's quiet as a church mouse on high. BMW dealer wanted about $450 in labor. What a rip off. They quoted me 2.25 hrs. I'm inexperienced and did it in about an hour. That was all though, two little leaves to make that loud noise. Make sure you replace that filter cover though!

Wow, so glad I saw this post. My blower motor started making these noises a few weeks ago. I definitely suspect leaves as my car has been parked outside the last few months after being garaged for many years and I do find leaves on it often.

If you decide to do the job when you disconnect positive (red cable) wrap it in towel or put rubber glows on it DO NOT short it out with wrench or touch any metal on your car
You will fuck shit up be careful

That's why it is advisable to remove the negative (ground/earth) cable.
