I got the airbag covered by leather at my local saddler. Absolutely worth it!

I guess it happens the same way like the new BMW airbags that are covered with leather. The leather are not strong enough to keep the airbag inside.

Interesting. Guess so. Looks amazing anyway so if it fails, at least it looks the shiz. I really like it!

Yes, DIY with $40aud Alcantara wrap off ebay. Not too hard but fiddly. Did it progressively starting with the side door trims. My only gripe is that the silver trim below is plastic welded on so I couldn't tuck the wrap under to hold. Just stuck on and cut along the trim with a scalpel. Hopefully lasts but it was cheap so not too devo if it doesn't

I would be very careful with that assumption. From what I can tell, you've made a BMW roundel sized claymore.

F generation airbag cover breakage:

G generation leather airbag cover breakage:

They break in a very different pattern, and the way our generation airbags deploy means there's 3 basic outcomes:

1) rip the leather apart (really hard if it's even half decent leather
2) rip the leather at the seams, creating a 50/50 chance of hinging away harmlessly or becoming a deadly projectile
3) rip/throw the leather completely off the airbag, creating a deadly projectile once again

The G leather one almost definitely has pre-cut perforations so that it will rip at defined places with the underlying plastic. I just wouldn't fuck with airbags, no matter how good the leather covering looks.

The G-series M-sport airbag blows exact same way as the F10 airbag.

I see no problems here. It is thin leather, which is sewn in the same way as the original. No other safety factors are affected by this, and this airbag will be triggered in exactly the same way as before and as the G-Series M-Sport.

Hey, it's your life and car. It's totally up to you, but you're literally gambling with your life here for a 4x4 piece of leather lol

Completed my B&O retrofit.. along with the NBT EVO swap. Now to find a proper Kyocera display instead of using my old display since the colors are washed out with my original innolux screen (with modified 12-24v - 9v DC/DC Converter)

Cutting the dash while installed is a PITA. so little room in the back..

Also swapped the front door insterts to full leather options.. rears i'm not going to as I have a toddler and may get a dog soon 😆

Also put M sport side skirts following the great DIY from isturbointegra..

Pics meeting a fellow forum member xxpanipurixx which was a pleasure..

Sorry the car is so dirty and needs a really good detail..

Things left to do.. RSE install.. maybe I'm the spring /summer

Got my under engine rock guard installed yesterday. Huge thanks to SWFLf10 for pointing me in the right direction with the part#.

I was missing 8 screws, but lucky I live 2 streets away from BMW and had the parts in my hand literally 5 min after calling them.

Wrapped my V bar in gloss white. Fortunately, I didn't have to remove the front nose clip and was able to gain access through the kidney grills. Once the grills were removed, I removed the two separate support brackets to wrap the entire bars. Thanks for looking!

Is your F10 a legit Alpina B5 or is this a conversion?

Alpina will always have the Alpina badge on the steering wheel

The only legitimate Alpina part missing is the internals of the engine and the front radiator changes..everything else is original Alpina equipment sourced from Europe (Schmeidman, FMW, ebay.de, alloywheelsdirect etc). Most difficult to get was the actual badge as Alpina is strict about selling parts to existing ALPINA owners only and you need a VIN. I had to get someone in Europe to source for me

Yes, the B5 never made it stateside and I decided to cover it as best as I could short of a full engine and cooling system transplant.

And yes, needs a detail badly..quite embarrassed actually but I was in the middle of all the retrofits, thats my excuse

Makes sense and I'm not sure why I didn't even think of that. Either way, the reminder is def appreciated.

I been contemplating on picking up a set of those [Alpina]wheels to be honest. How do you like em?
