You had issues with too much air right? Or why did you remove it?
Yeah you have to tune to scale the MAF. I started running into leak issues and started eliminating culprits. I was able to hit 22 PSI with out and kept it that way. The inlet was huge upgrade.
Are you sure it needs the tuning? I assume the MST one doesn't...?
After talking to David Shoup about this he said that the extra air will actually affect WGDC. The MAF is only used at idle and cruising when you are off the gas.

The important thing about the MAF is that it reads how much the passing air cools the wire, and then based on that it calculates the air flow assuming stock intake tubing sizes. The stock intake at the MAF is roughly 3" which is what I have here so I expect no MAF issues.

What I don't understand is how all the extra air could negatively impact WGDC... above my pay grade.

more air for the same WGDC, isn't it a good thing? just guessing here, MAP should pick up extra boost pressure and recalibrate WGDC% automatically?

Don't confuse the two map sensors so let's clarify: There is the MAP sensor to monitor air flow pre turbo, which is what I customized and what's in question here. But there is also the TMAP post Turbo on the charge pipe which I switched out to a 3.5 bar from the n20 to read over 20 lbs of Boost.

So I see your logic in saying the T-map sensor shouldn't be impacted post turbo but I also trust David way more than anyone... so it's a question of understanding the cause and effect of extra intake air impacting WGDC. That's what we don't know.

I will try to get him to educate me and pass on the info. Man I'd love to know what he knows and be able to tune like he does...

Man I used to tune the simpler stuff in the 2000s. Apexi SAFCs, Greddy eManage, and old HP Tuners... I too would love to have the ability to tune these newer cars. I never got to learn the process/ see the tuning process on one of these cars whom the manufacturer went to systems based on adaptive adaptations (such as BMW).

Ten years ago when I lived in Miami, I watched Mike at ActiveAutowerke put a safe tune on my turbo'd E46 (was not ready for full on tuning yet so we put a rich tune with a 5000 rpm redline as a temporary tune). He was moving so quickly that I didn't get to ask him much lol. It looked like an old DOS interface (well, lack of interface really. No graphs. it was just black screen and a ton of numbers and letters. Looked like the matrix backdrop )

I was getting errores but as mentioned I had leaks at the time.

Nice shit bro! You will def. need a rescale to take advantage of the extra air coming into the intake. Turbo will spin faster with incoming air and will affect the WGDC depending on the density of air. I personally noticed a big difference once we were going up in revisions.

I'm sure that would work the same with my car, I haven't really gotten in there to see clearance but I have a lot of space under the hood of the X5.

Here is why building boost too soon with too much air might be an issue... if it spools too soon and you hit 100% WGDC at a low RPM, the boost will fall off... maybe it's better to hit boost at a more optimal RPM? Here is a short read that helps...

loved the read! Will have to do a log soon as mine are prior to a few small changes I've done.... I'm also curious to see what yours are pre-PS2 Vs PS2, and then "normal" intake Vs "Kidney" intake. This may be great data to overlay on your upcoming video

We can fix that good sir. Im booked up for tonight but... tomorrow (if weather allows) I can do a log to show the WGDC Vs Actual Boost on my car (PWG, FBO on Stage2+ E40, and stock turbo with BMS intake). Not exactly apples to apples but it would get the point across.
