Ceramic SAT Shifter Retrofit?

I have a 2011 535i. I wanted to change out my shifter to the ceramic sport shifter and found the part number that should fit my car. Found a ceramic sport shifter on eBay that has the matching part number so I bought it. When the part arrives I open up my center console and attempt to switch the shifter only to discover the ceramic sport shifter has 10 pins and the stock one has 8 pins.

I tried to do more research and it seems that the regular shifter has 8 pins and the sport ones have 10 pins. I thought this switching shifters was a plug and play. Do I need to buy a 10 pin socket housing?

Yep, BMW switched to a 10 pin connector in 03/2012. Wiring stayed the same, but the wire positions within the housing changed. You'll need the 10 pin housing (P/N: 61139132577) and then transfer the pins over to their proper locations.

Guide is off a F30, but it should be the same. I'll pull my console and double check if the posted wiring configuration doesn't work

The slightly confusing part is the green and red wires. Pay attention to those. There's a mostly red one with a green stripe, and a mostly green one with a red stripe.

Unspec - thank you for the most concise outline of what's going on that I've seen to date. Based on the other info I found when looking into things like this I knew that there were two different connectors, there was a switchover, did NOT know that it was as easy as re-pinning to a different connector housing. You summed it all up perfectly for later reference. I have a 4/2011 535 and kind of avoided looking at used SAT shifters because I figured it would turn into a sh!tsh0w (a technical term for all the "easy" things I attempt to do).

Thank you for the kind words

And to confirm, it does look like a simple repinning, corroborated by newTIS (see below). These are the actual wiring diagrams for the F10. I wonder if it's possible to put a 8 pin shifter in a 10pin car. I can't see why anyone would do that though lol. Also, F30 shifters will not work in a F10, and vice versa.

Followed the diagram and I was done in 30 min. Super simple retrofit. I love the new interior look on my F10.

NICE. Guess it's officially verified that it's just a super simple repin.

You will need to install a touch controller module, replace the iDrive controller and then flash the head unit
