Replacing Air Intake Pipe / Filtered Pipe N57

Hey Team,

F10 535DX N57 2014

So BMW Dealer says the Air Intake or Filtered Pipe and its built-in sensor need to be replaced.

This was related to codes thrown for (Per bimmerlink)

"28DA00
Engine ventilation heating, control; short circuit to ground"

Dealer says need to replace part number 13718574784

Looks to be air intake pipes with integrated sensors. Which consists of

Question: Does anyone know how difficult a job this is? Should I do it? No surprise water pumps to remove, engines to completely pull? Anyone seen a DIY on this one or tackled it? Dealer wants $825 for parts and labor. $200 is avg price for just the pipe/sensor online.

Its #17 in photo below.

Thank you!

Well, I don’t believe this would be difficult in terms of complexity. That said, like many/most BMW repairs, it is an issue of access. You could barely get a trained worm down there let alone a hand with tools. Perhaps it is more accessible from beneath.

I am also curious what “sensors” would be in this piping. The small hose (#19) from the PCV does have a heating element at each end to prevent vapor from freezing in the winter but am not aware of any sensors in the pipe itself.

Good luck!

Well I swapped the pipe and guess what, the same error code exists. I clear it and it comes right back.

Well that is most unfortunate and calls into question the dealer’s diagnosis.

Were you able to determine what sensors (if any) reside in the filtered air piping?
