TPMS Sensors
SOO...
Bought some new wheels from a buddy of mine who owns a 2018 M4. I assumed the TPMS sensors would work for my 2015 F10. Was I wrong?! Does anyone know if they are specific to each car? Thanks guys! Appreciate the help!

My 535i does not have the TPMS but at the Bosch shop I was told the car is still looking for sensors.. I upgraded to 19" with slightly bigger tires and now the pressure system (at the ABS sensor) does not want to register the new wheels...? Any advice will be appreciated

Not sure if I completely agree with the frequency theory. For example, I have TPM sensors on a set of wheels from the earlier series of an F10 that are not completely compatible with my later series F10. Specifically, the TPM sensors are recognized by my vehicles (in other words, there is no tire-warning light on the dash), but do not read tire pressure that should display with"Vehicle" data on the car's center screen. If the older TPM sensor are recognized by my vehicle, wouldn't that imply they are of the correct frequency? If not, I'd get an error light. Is there perhaps other code sent by a TPM sensor that is not compatible with another vehicle, so wouldn't these sensors be vehicle specific also?

Any place that sells them will list a frequency. Your car will list a frequency. How would any place, including bmw, know what car they are mating with? |

I'll concede that frequency matters-the sensors are not hardwired to the vehicle. However, I was trying to point out that my newer F10 sees the old TPM sensors (so presumably they are of the same frequency), but the older sensors do not transmit pressure data to the vehicle. So it's assumed that sensors differ beyond just frequency. There must be complementary software in the TPM sensors and vehicle, so all data is transferred.

Yes that is correct.
Old is a variable term, my 2013 does pressure and temperature. Not all are capable of that but there are capable of at least pressure, otherwise what's the point? |

when installing new wheels with new TPMS sensors, I had to perform TPMS reset on the car and then the car recognised new TPMS sensors and I got pressure and temperature reading. Have you tried to reset TPMS on the car?

if they are specific to a frequency, if I buy one will that work with the current sensors on my 520d since the tyre was changed over the weekend and the muppet removed the sensor and valve to change the valve due to to a leak and changed it with a normal valve
thanks in advance |
