F10 M Sport Gear knob

I've got my F10 520D due for end of October.
I'm not a fan of the SE gear knob, so i'm keen to swap for a M Sport gear knob.
Anyone got a pic of the new M Sport gear knob. I take it is an easy swap?

You can see it if you configure an M-sport model in BMW's UK site.

Its for comfort not appearance. I've grown used to my M stick on my 320si.
Much easier and swifter to change. Plus as its made of leather its nice and warm.

Still, it gives the wrong impression when people see it, like when you see a bmw 316i pas by with an M on the back. You want comfort take the Sport Automatic with shift paddles, comfort and sporty combined

It's just a tiny M badge on the shifter. To me, when you put a M badge on a car, it means you think your car is M-worthy - which if you don't have a M car, is wrong. But putting a M badge on a shifter (or a shifter with a M badge in this case) is fine in my opinion, since if anything it means you think the shifter is of M quality, which being a M-Sport shifter, it is.

If BMW itself puts it inside a non-M car, there's nothing wrong with it.

In many Asian countries a 520D costs more than an M6 in US or EU.

Think about that...

I'm not saying that there is something wrong with the 520D, on the contrary, it's the sensible choice if you live in EU or Asia. Just that emblem....

You can get an M Sport package from factory on the 520D with M logos all over the place.

Seems you have a different standard for the M logo than even BMW.

Yeah I know, the brand M isn't what it used to be, just look at the x5M or x6M. You don't see Mercedes making a Gl amg or Audi a Q7 RS

Are you kidding:

http://www.trucktrend.com/roadtests/...amg/index.html

http://www.edmunds.com/mercedesbenz/ml55amg/review.html

http://www.insideline.com/mercedes-b...mg-4matic.html

MB has AMG version of practically all their cars and Audi has S-line on every model including Q...

All these companies invest heavily on the M/AMG/S brands so they can get returns on the brand on their bread and butter models...

Guys you are getting ahead of yourself. I'm not trying to make my car look an M car. I'm still even keeping the 520d badging!

I'm getting the 520d SE as a company car. The M Sport version would cost me ~£100 more p/m than the SE. With regards to auto/man transmission.

I could have auto or xenon headlights - I chose xenon's

I had a choice for a 330d SE or a 520d SE. So I chose 520d because its a new shape whereas the E90 is the same as what I have now.

I'm going to be doing 30k miles per year so lots of gear changes, i'd like a stick I like the feel of - If they did the same type without M Sport badging then i'd get that.

The stick on the E90 SE and E90 M Sport is what i'm comparing. The E90 SE has an alloy knob which is not easy on the wrist for quick changing and cold in winter. The E90 M Sport has a nice leather knob which is also shorter on the stub.

If I had paid for the car out of my own cash i'd waited for the M Sport version.

Thanks for the pic remmib, I had a look earlier today at that on the configurator.
It looks too computer generated to tell if it will be any good. Might ask local stealer if they have a stock photo of the dash for the new M Sport. It might show a better picture maybe.

Kinda agree with you papahotel. All I want to do is to change a gear knob - i'm hardly putting a M5 badge on the back - which I do think is naff.

Hi Sherekhan, i'm liking your idea, will think of doing the same as well. That M gear knob does look more comfy and sporty. Do let us know if you manage to change it and how much its gonna set us back.

I have ordered the M sport steering wheel for my F11 520d Touring. I find the standard or sport steering wheel is too thin for my taste. I will have the sports automatic and I don't think the gear knob will change then.

That's why I am having M Sport wheel too. The normal one feels as bad as the MB W212 steering wheel.

smanoj77 I will post back here what it costs I can't see it being more than £50 hopefully.

Sealobo - The first thing I thought of was Vx Cavalier circa 83!

I haven't tried the M sport steering wheel, but the sport steering wheel with the F10 is quite good when compared to the ordinary wheel. The pics look the same as well except for the M symbol. IMHO.
