Vettel leaving Ferrari!

https://au.motorsport.com/f1/news/se...shock/4791097/

This is going to fun!

Hope my man Danni Ric gets the gig, anything to get out of Renault I would have thought?

The suggestion though is Sainz goes to Ferrari and Danni goes to McLaren, that works as well.

I for one will be surprised if there's even a 2020 season unfortunately.

I have to be honest, I haven't been missing the races or really any other sport for that matter.

Not sure what that has to do with my post but thanks.

Thanks for your honesty as well, I am diametrically opposed to your comment though! I have missed F1, MotoGP and WSBK racing tremendously and I cannot wait for it to start back up.

Be safe.

i'm kinda curious.... are they allowed to practice in an actual car right now? mercedes drivers are going to be really acquainted with that adjustable toe if that is the case. major advantage.

Vettel is my fav driver but he hasn’t seemed as focused or hungry the last few years.
Alonso to step into Vettel’s seat? He’s already talked about a return if it was for a top team.

not sure if Vettel can go for the 5th title ever.. but this is F1 things can change fast..
as long as Gio wont do stupid things this season he probably ll have the 2nd seat in Ferrari..

I think this is the most realistic scenario. I actually hopes Sainz get the job, as he matched and sometimes outraced Verstappen, while racing for TR. Would be interesting to see him vs Leclerc.

It will also give someone new to support, seeing that Hamilton's racing career is in the twilight years. I have always been a fan of Sainz. I like his no no nonsense attitude.

Speak for yourself.

I am craving motorsport and golf (my other hobby) desperately at the moment.

And that is what it will remain.

I don't get this obsession with him going to Ferrari.

Nope, Ferrari will never pair him with Leclerc.

Also, I don't think any F1 team would want Alonso back.

I'm genuinely surprised how many people think Gio is ready to step up to Ferrari. If Ferrari want a constructors title, surely they have to go with Ricciardo or Sainz. They are two known quantities that have much more experience.

Now that I think about it, Ricciardo would be a good fit if they want Gio in the seat at some point. Ricciardo is 5 years younger than Hamilton, so throw him in the seat for the short term future while Gio gets more experience. Reevaluate where Gio is in terms of performance once Ricciardos contract is up. That should ensure both drivers that they sign for the near and long term future have the adequate experience necessary in F1 to really succeed.

Either way, this will be very interesting to watch and see how it develops!

Am I missing something? How is Vettels departure going to cost Ferrari? His contract is up at the end of this year, so both parties should be free and clear to separate (just like Hamilton/Mercedes or Ricciardo/Renault).

Yes I missed out mentioning also the high expectations wanted by Ferrari when Seb replaced Alonso in that the large revenue also lost when no Constructors or Drivers title won from that time to present.

Reading up a little more on this bombshell news, I came across two interesting pieces of information regarding Vettel's replacement:

Quote:
Ferrari has made no secret of the fact that it thinks that developing young drivers is the best way to go forward but in December Mattia Binotto clearly indicated that 2021 will be too early for a newcomer – bad news for for Antonio Giovinazzi. Binotto argued that with the new rules coming it would be best to have someone with experience.
Quote:
Ferrari chairman Camilleri has specifically stated that the young driver programme does not mean that the team won’t buy in talent if required.
Quotes are from Joe Saward: https://www.joeblogsf1.com/joesaward...medium=twitter

Doesn't sound to promising for Gio, but I think it makes sense based on his lack of F1 experience.

There is no way Gio is going to Ferrari at this point in his career. One day maybe but sure as hell won’t be next year.

There seem to be some people who think he would be a good fit over there, so I figured I'd post a counter argument or two. Either way, I cant wait to see who they choose and how well they get on at Ferrari

well its always normal to be a bit skeptic about statements but Vettel says, this decision didnt come out of a financial disagreement.. so what Ferrari said you wont be the #1 driver anymore?

Unfortunately a one-trick-pony.

Blown Diffuser Champion. Fearsome in an underpowered car with a planted rear but dodgy otherwise.

I would say that about sums it up
Also Leclerc will have some say who'll be coming to Ferrari and I don't think personally he would want Ricciardo or Sainz.
