Just Bought A '16 535i Yesterday!

Hi everyone. I bought my first BMW 4 years ago, a '13 328i M Sport. Absolutely loved that car and had a lot of fun upgrading it. I wasn't familiar with BMWs when I bought it and missed out on a lot of options (it had halogen headlights and no sunroof, for example). I didn't make that mistake this time. I took my time and waited for something just right. Yesterday I picked up my Carbon Black 535i and love it so far. It doesn't have every option but it's gotta be pretty close.

ZMM: M Sport
ZCW: Cold Weather Package
ZDA: Driving Assistance
ZDB: Driving Assistance Plus
ZDH: Dynamic Handling
ZLP: Lighting Package
ZPP: Premium Package
2VH: Integral Active Steering
323: Soft Close Doors
5DP: Parking Assistant
6F2: B&O Sound System
6FH: Rear Seat Entertainment
6NS: Enhanced Bluetooth
6UK: Nightvision

It doesn't have the upgraded seats which I'm a bit bummed about, but I absolutely love the way the car drives. My f30 was on Bilstein B14 coilovers, which were great, but I was sick of the ride, especially living right next to train tracks.

I'm going to put my Dinan sport piggyback on until I'm ready to flash tune it.

Since I'm new to this chassis, and motor, I have a few questions. I'm sure a lot of these questions have been asked (and answered) already, but given that there's about six model years worth of content to sift through, if y'all would be kind enough to at least point me in the direction of some relevant threads, I'd appreciate it.

1: Is the charge pipe weak and prone to breaking under extra boost like on the f30?

2: Will my rims fit? The f30 doesn't like an aggressive offset. My fronts are 19x8.5 et45 and my rears are 19x9.5 et38 or 40. Will I need spacers?

3: Can I lower it a bit, maybe .5" or so without changing the ride quality? Will the Dynamic Handling be a complication?

4: My Spotify app in iDrive won't work. In fact none of the apps, like Amazon and Pandora, are showing up. The build sheet says it has connected drive. What do I need to do to enable this? Phone is connected via usb, left the screen open on Spotify on y phone, etc just like I did on my f30.

5: Is getting the trunk to close with the key fob a coding option?

6: Anything else I need to know? Any cool hidden features or maintenance concerns? Car has about 43k miles on it.

Thanks in advance for any help! Looking forward to joining this community.

There is an unwritten rule, pictures or it didn't happen.
I don't know if you realized from your previous BMW but they don't change every year.
They run in "generations" of the body style, usually lasting several years with a minor update mid run called LCI ( Life Cycle Impulse). Otherwise they are all the same sans options. Of course the difference in engine sizes and the '///M' cars.

Ok to run through your questions.
1. Not that I have heard of.
2. "Aggressive" is a subjective term. Your standard offset for that car is 33, rwd and awd is the same. There is a lot of information here on this subject, it would be better if you explore and research to suit your taste. Especially considering your desire to lower.
3. The car can be lowered without complications, I have seen up to 1.5" .
4. This one is a little more complicated as you don't mention the year. Pre-LCI is no longer capable without some retrofit/upgrades. ConnectedDrive is a subscription based service, so you will need to sign up and pay first. This applies to both cases.
5. Yes, if you have the power trunk option.
6. Yes, but again browse around. Check the Coding sub forum, I know there is a list floating around somewhere. Again, realize that it depends on your cars options, like the trunk question, you can't code it to close with the fob if it isn't motorized.

Welcome and Enjoy!
Again, Pictures Pictures Pictures!

Sorry, just noticed that you did have the year in your title.
That would make yours a LCI, everything still applies except the part about retrofit/updrades. You still need to purchase ConnectedDrive.

I would get the Bimmercode app if you dont already have it. You can code the trunk close with the key fob along with many other options to make the car "your own"

Thanks all for the input! It's dark by the time I leave work, I'll get some decent pictures up this weekend. I'll definitely check out the coding apps as well, there's a bunch of tweaks I'd like to make

On top of everything else mentioned I think for #4 you need to have a coder enable "Enhanced Bluetooth." You might want to invest in a windows laptop and OBD2 cable and look for a coder to do an online consultation.

Also, pay an Indy mechanic to literally do a "pre-purchase inspection" on it so you can see what maintenance items are due or coming up (think belts, brakes, sensors, wipers, etc etc etc).

BMW CPO doesn't do any of that stuff and will sell you the car with all sorts of shyte ready to be replaced, so you are on your own from here out!

I'm jealous of the DHP package on your car. I miss the magnetic dampers and slightly more forgiving suspension on my 2013 535. The 2016 is much stiffer and has some rattles as a result. They both actually handled similarly as well on the same high speed turns I take every day.

Wow that car looks loaded with all the uncommon high-cost options (DHP, IAS...), I can't believe it didn't have the Comfort Seats (which are great btw). Are you sure it doesn't have the comfort seats S456A? Congrats!

Finally snapped a few pictures

Goes in for 20% ceramic tints on Tuesday.

Black grilles are next.

If I have the Dinan sport piggyback on there, should my first real purchase be Dinan axle back exhaust or have it dyno tuned at my buddy's shop? They're responsible for some of the fastest Mclarens in the country and definitely know their business.

Also, thinking about powder coating the 351Ms, thoughts? Not black, but more of a gunmetal to retain just a bit of contrast with the car.

I'm trying to remember if the Dinan parameters can be changed/tweaked or not? I suggest going double slat for the grills. the Dinan exhaust is a pretty mild exhaust. what kind of tone are you looking for?

Mild tone is what I'm looking for. I did a muffler delete on my f30, and while it actually sounded great, nice and deep and not cheap at all, I want this car to be more refined. I still want some exhaust tone, but more understated.

Also, I was asking in terms of timing and order. I intend to do both upgrades; my question is, taking into consideration I have the Dinan Sport piggyback on there making a bit of difference (although not as much as I expected, even in "race" mode), does it make more sense to dyno tune it now with the stock exhaust or leave the piggyback on there and buy the Dinan mufflers and do the dyno tune down the road when I'm ready to spend more money on the car?

I still have about 10 months of CPO warranty so I'm thinking about holding holding off on the dyno tune until that's run out. I'd love to hear any input.

Also, I will NEVER use the rear seat entertainment. Is there a market for the screens? Haven't seen any in the classifieds.

I have some more specific questions but I'll do some research first and take them to the appropriate sections if necessary.

Thanks for the replies and interest!

Sweet! I used to live in Miami but just moved to Delray and my office is in Boca. My territory is Broward though so I'm down in your neck of the woods a few times per month. What upgrades have you done? Any opportunity to check something out in person before pulling the trigger myself would be amazing.

Sadly no upgrades yet. The wife and I are in the market for a house in the Pompano area. I work off Commercial and can be found all around the area, typically east of 95
