TMC Problems
I have the ProMedia package but the TMC system often takes ages to come to life from startup, during which time it says 'no traffic information available ' but once it finally displays the traffic info it works fine.
Have had the problem in London so am sure its nothing to do with lack of signal strength. Asked my dealer and the service advisor didn't have a clue and suggested you needed to listen to Classic FM all the time for TMC to work. My previous 3 series had Pro Nav and the TMC used to find traffic info straightaway. Anyone having similar problems ? |

LOL listen to Classic FM all the time....what a moronic answer, typical Service Advisor bs.
TMC was always up after a few minutes on the M3 and was nearly instant on the Pioneer AVIC I used to run. Don't have nav on the 335 and the f10 isn't here yet, so I suppose the first question is the one that you've asked - is everyone else seeing the same?

in uk its run by a company called ITIS
It is true its carried on classic FM but should be carried by other commercial radio stations - i dont think BBC does. Their website tells you all theradi stations that carry it. http://www.itisholdings.com/article....&highlight=tmc |

I thought that BBC Local offer a repeater on it - not sure where the hell I heard that so it could just be hearsay, certainly the national channels don't carry it.

Just a side note, not sure if it helps, don't listen to commercial radio, BBC stations only, business nav, post Oct '10 build, tmc works fine... No need to listen to classic fm, although if to accelerate hard before the car had warmed up (first 5 mins) the nav does shut down reboot and it the thinks you about 50m to the left of right of your actual location even if it's no on a road.... There is something not right, added to the list of things to get annoyed about with the dealer....

There are twin-tuners so the TMC can pick up the signal on Classic FM even if you're listening to something else. It does work so see the dealer if yours doesn't and moan harder!

have to say in my F11 TMC seems (not that i've really been monitoring it) to be always there very quickly and never noticed it being unavailable (yet). seems to be improved from previous generation system. my car is DAB fitted so not sure if having DAB improves or speeds up receiving TMC at all...shouldn't do in theory. |

Went out and checked mine (I use the Nav rarely as it's not often I don't know where I'm going; couldn't resist speccing Pro Nav though ) and the TMC info is there immediately. So perhaps the OP does have an issue. Oh, as for the dealer telling you to listen to Classic FM, I've never listened to that in my life.

This is an old thread, but my F10 was always perfect and fast with TMC - no Classic FM listening or stored in my car! I always have Radio 5 on (medium wave - no TMC signal there whatsoever).
However I'm now in a 2010 335d E90 with the same professional media pack (albeit s slightly smaller screen) and exactly the same iDrive interface. My TMC has been intermittently working, and often very very slow to load up or update during journeys since I got the car 3 weeks ago. Often it is shown on the Nav screen, but when I go into the traffic info it says there isn't any! Did the OP get a resolution? Here's what I posted elsewhere following my visit to the dealer today: Well took it the dealer today under warranty. Was getting 'no traffic information available at this time' still more often than not. They had the car for the day in case there was a software update due or a reload required. All they did was tell me that because TMC is transmitted by Classic FM, then it won't work properly unless that station is stored as a station in the radio function. Now I knew it was transmitted by Classic FM, but I thought a different receiver picked up the TMC signals? You would have thought the manual would say that, or you would be told to always leave that station stored when the car is handed over to you from new??* Will see how it goes over the next few days - I have a mammoth journey on Friday as a test. Will be VERY annoyed if that isn't the issue because I asked before booking it in if they could think of anything obvious - they said it was better to leave it with them for the day instead. One courtesy car admin fee, over 75 miles charge @ 30ppm later....* What do you guys think?
