F10 535 versus 740

I was going to get the 535 doing European Delivery in July. The M.S.R.P. of the 740i is $71,025 including the $875 Destination and Handling charge. Rather than getting a loaded 535, I may get a 740 with hardly any options. If the lease rates are aggressive on the 740 in July the monthly payments may get close. Decisions, decisions.

I think they would probably both have similar lease rates, while the F10 may have slightly higher residual. In Canada, the 7 normally has higher lease rates than the 5 by at least 1%, often 2%. However, in this scenario the 5 will be a new car, so it's going to be higher than typical as well. I'm going to guess the rates will be very similar on both cars.

I went to our local dealership and looked at the interior of the new F07, compared to the F01. They are actually very similar, though the F01 had a few nice touches like the leather dash, which added to the overall fit and finish of its material. I'd expect the F10 to be pretty similar to the F01, so it all boils down to whether you prefer the drive or the ride of the car...

Also, coming from a 550i, you may find the 740 a bit on the slower side? You're losing 40hp/torque, and gaining a lot of weight.

I have a deposit down for a 535i, and as of yesterday when I read about the 740i, am in the same boat as you. I was concerned about the 740i's weight with a 6-cylinder, but the 0-60 time of 5.9 seconds eliminated that concern. I really don't need a car as big as the 7, but if there isn't much difference in the payments (I also lease for business), then it'd be hard to pass up on the 740.
