New Owner here already with concerns about the car

I purchased a Black 2013 535 M Sport in Socal with 31k miles on the odometer from a non BMW dealer. The car still has factory warranty for another year so I really need to stay on top of this in order to ensure any hidden items are taken care of.

The history of the car started at Brea BMW as a two year lease then moved to a 2nd owner for only 1.2 years out of Irvine BMW. The only carfax item mentioned was a replaced a/c compressor at 24k miles, otherwise the service history is just oil changes. No accidents reported.

What am i seeing on the car?

1. Missing weather stripping on half of the upper front windshield, and the other half looks abnormally worn out. Almost as if a new windshield was put in and no care for replacing the stripping was taken. The lower portion of the front windshield weather stripping looks like it belongs on a ten year old car, not a three year old car.

2. The sunroof is not seated properly on the passenger side, it sits a few noticeable millimeters higher than the roof line (just at one corner).

3. The wrapping around the rear left hand side of the steering wheel (behind the cruise control buttons) has a little flap that sticks out and is not flush, almost as if someone peeled it back at some point.

4. At start up of the car, the computer on the dash says "Next service in 1/2000" , I was wondering what on earth would make the car say the year 2000? Is this indicative of someone messing with the coding of the car?

5. Start/Stop button completely worn out.

The prior owner of the vehicle was named Zachery Camp (Kamp?), perhaps he is even on these boards, if so I would love some info on this car.

So you bought a car without inspecting it and it's not from a BMW dealership that's the first red flag!

+1

You should've seen all this before you purchased it. I personally don't need one because I know what to look for under the hood, but I know many people that would never purchase a used car without a PPI

Brave man, best of luck.

None of the stuff besides maybe sunroof, would be covered by warranty, seems someone didn't treat the car right. Uncool from you and whoever gave you the info to be bringing previous owner's name in public forum, just my opinion.

Thanks for the shared concern guys. Just trying to piece together the history of the car. I really want to ensure the factory warranty is put to good use.

Bummer

But, you should have gone over the car with a fine toothed comb.

Move forward and make the best if it.

Read this thread on the service 1/2000 issue. I don't know the resolution, just have seen the thread constantly.

Update:

The car went into the dealer over night for warranty work to replace the Start/Top button, software update, code a 2nd key and adjust the sunroof (not perfectly level).

I had them inspect the car and specifically brought up my concerns about any prior accident and their conclusion was that the issues i was seeing was due to sun damage from most likely being parked outside for long periods of time. No sign of accidents at all.

How long was your car at the dealer for the software update? Just 1 night?

LOL, I was thinking the car was parked outside as well. THe SOCal sun can destroy the window rubber pretty quickly - this was a fairly common issue on the E60. As for the rest? The BMW dealer seems to have handled it well enough. I also bought my car from a non-BMW dealer, however, my car is a 1 owner car and the dealer I got it from is a sister dealer to the BMW dealer that originally sold it (Shelly BMW). I also got extended warranty when I got the car. I opted not to go with CPO this time, I learned the hard way on my E60s that CPO warranty does NOT cover electronics, which sucked when my navigation/IDrive died. They quoted me $2800 to replace that and an additional $1400 to replace the TCU (Bluetooth module) - neither of which were covered under CPO.

You guys lost me on the weather stripping issue. My '14 has no weather stripping that is visible. There is a sort of gasket that the windshield sits on but the top has a "channel" between the top of the glass and the body of the car. It looks like every 5 on the lot that I've noticed. There are 2 strips of rubber recessed in the A pillars, is this what is half missing :

Referencing your photo, I have a rubber gasket above the windshield and I am not seeing it in your photo.

My '12 doesn't have a weather strip at the top of the windscreen either... Same as wrickem's.

Your windshield must have been replaced, and not very well. My '13 looks identical to the '14 posted - no obvious weatherstrip at the top of the windshield. If you look carefully, there is a rubber strip deep in the channel between the windshield and the roof. If yours has a strip that goes above the roofline, I would ask the dealer about it. Surely they have a Pre LCI car on the lot for reference.

Dealer called and echoed this exact assessment. The windshield had in fact been replaced. Although the windshield is good, they are replacing the windshield with new BMW glass as well as lower and upper trim under warranty.

DAng, you should take your SA a gift card for dinner, or his favorite bottle. That's what I do when my SA takes good care of me. That dealer really stepped up.

It's cool that the dealership is replacing the windshield but why would they do that?

Just picked up the car after being away for a week. The windshield was replaced as well as the rubber stripping at the top and lower rubber cowling. It was covered under warranty. They didn't have to do it but I am very thankful for the dealership's efforts.

I'm glad it worked out for you! Post a pic of the top weather stripping if you will, I'm curious what it would look like
