I mean.... you'd think that an UPHILL race would be insanely advantageous for EV powerplants no? It's not that shocking.

EV is definitely coming faster than ICE did but ICE showed up after the industrial revolution so not really that crazy especially when you consider the political/lobby influence.

I'm not an EV hater. I think they make a lot of sense as a daily driver BUT THEY'RE NOT SPORTS CARS.

If you put us in a time machine to the 90s, mostly everyone on this forum would be participating in "AMERIKAN KARZ CANT TURN" discussions even though they used to smoke everything in a straight line for a long time (now they make some of the best handling sports cars). EVs are the new straight line/one-dimensional performance platform.

This.

And the simple fact that a near 5000lbs boat that first debuted in 2012 has ran a similar time to an m5cs that took decades to perfect just goes to show how far ev has come.

The denial is real and I’m not getting into the politics of it.

But if people think this technology will come to a halt or slow down anytime soon is dreaming.

Every year that goes by this process is accelerating twice.

Lots of cars are faster than a plaid around the ring. Still not bad for a 10 year old model.

Other cars took generations to get to that point.

600 additional horsepower. 2935729735972359723597 additional foot pounds of torque. ON THE NURBURGRING WHERE POWER MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

Do you understand this thread is about sports cars and that none of you have even come close to convincing anyone that EV sports cars are a thing or even close to being a thing?

Let me just paint out some facts for you, and don't take this as me being an asshole, I just think you're over-valuating EV right now.

1) Over a century of ICE development exists
2) There's 2 billion ICE engines out there
3) There's hundreds of thousands of fueling stations everywhere
4) There's thousands of manufacturing facilities, optimized production/tooling for ICE
5) Battery energy density is decades away from being comparable to gasoline
6) Battery manufacturing is still not that GREEN or cost-effective although this is improving faster than 5 is
7) We're not even close to having the infrastructure to support an EV takeover for a long time - Elon Musk is the first to say it

If you think demolishing every fuel station/underground fuel storage tanks then having local environmental protection remediate the soil followed by construction of an electrical grid and supplemental power plants to sustain it is something that we're even close to achieving - you've got another thing coming.

Just because California is the most autistic state in the US doesn't mean anything. Newsom is the biggest moron on the planet.

Alternative fuels + EV is the future. Fully electrified vehicles will exist but they will take a backseat to hybrid tech - right now it's just the bandaid for hippies who don't understand the long term requirements and effects of eliminating ICE.
Autistic state. That's a new low.

We have a few people that show up to our AutoX with Performance 3 models. They seem to have a blast. They also do things that we can't, like the instantaneous acceleration, for even 100' segments. Not the best turners, but not the worst either. They kill it and they seem to be having a ton of fun. Oh, and the reason we are ALL there, we like the sport of racing cars. Seems pretty sports-car like to me...

I had a lot of fun in my BMW 440 but it wasn't a sports car.

See the point I've been trying to make in this thread?

It most definitely does in many cases. Most people's cars sit most of the time. You are really increasing convenience if you can leverage that for charging, like most people with EVs do at home. Then they never have to go to a gas station again. That's pretty damn convenient. Buying any new car will never be "more efficient" than driving a hoopty, but everyone knows that people are going to buy new cars, no matter what.

Not really, the idea of a "sports car" being an underpowered tiny convertible is an extremely narrow view.

Cars that are designed for maximum performance or at least significantly improved performance over regular passenger models fit the definition just fine these days. There are sports sedans, sports wagons, sports coupes, and so on. These all seem to fit in a bigger general category: sports cars.

It feels like I'm discussing how many genders there are with a liberal arts major.

I'm seriously not trying to be rude to anyone in this thread but at this point I'm going to step out until one of you makes even a fraction of a point supporting that EV sports cars are a thing.

They are not and they won't be for quite a while.

Title said electric sports cars.

I already threw your argument out because I said when solid state comes, your argument is done.

If you want to talk about as of today, then yeah you have a point.

Come back in a year and we can monitor the progress.

You’ll be greatly disappointed.

That’s not the end of discussion the thread question was would you buy an electric sports car?

And the answer for me is yes.

I’m waiting for the ev corvette.

You must have gotten beat by a lot of teslas which would explain your hatred for this inevitable take over.

So far, haven't lost once to a Tesla and I roast them almost every day. Inevitably, I'll lose to a plaid in a straight line but so far just slaying them non-stop.

Btw, I love Elon Musk and Tesla. I'm just capable of having more than one thought.... because I'm not 5.

ICE engines are essentially maxed out the best ones from factory put down about 120-130hp/L at the wheels. and its been like that for quite a few years now. Of course you can add more power with a turbo, but that thing is going to take a while to spool up. there is some talk of pneumatic valves and synthetic fuels, i dont think it will catch on. Nobody is making bigger displacement engines these days with the current laws... everyone is downsizing and using turbos.

EVs are improving at a faster rate. the 2016 P85D was 4900 pounds and ran a 11.4 quarter. The the 2021 Plaid is the same weight and running a 9.4. By contrast the 4.0 in the 2011 GT3RS 4.0 is making 460whp... the 2021 GT3 4.0 makes 490whp.

I dont like it either but its inevitable. batteries will eventually become lighter, have more power, have more range, and fill up faster than a gasoline drivetrain.
