Oil Filter Housing Gasket (Help)

Can someone confirm for me that this is indeed a leaky oil filter housing gasket (OFHG)? If so, what should I expect to pay an indy to get this replaced? Thanks in advance!

Kind of looks like a small leak. Good to get this addressed as oil can leak on the belt and cause more issues.

Its hard to tell because that can be just residue coming from changing filters.

You can see from the bottom housing though. If there is more oil near the coolant pipes.

If you really want to be sure. Spray it down with brake or maf cleaner. And check in a few days.

Replaced mine as soon as I bought the car last month. Rock auto had the mahle set (both gaskets)
Apparently they’re out of stock but FCPEURO has it
https://www.fcpeuro.com/BMW-parts/53...&b=5&d=3584&v=
I replaced just the gaskets and it’s been fine, per my friend that’s a master bmw tech

Mashpotato is right. Clean the area but be sure to not get cleaner (if you use any) on the belts as it can deteriorate the belt some. At least, that's what happened to mine.

It's not hard to change out yourself. Take your time and don't overtorque and it shouldn't take more than 1hr first time around. Order from FCPEuro as they have the lifetime warranty.

Do a search on OFHG engine failure.....scary stuff....make sure you read up on the oil priming procedure which is basically: pull the injector connectors, crank engine 10 seconds, wait 20 seconds, crank 10 seconds and repeat procedure two more times. If it were me I would go one step further and hook up a oil pressure gauge or at least something that will read th oil pressure from the ob2. To many horror stories out there....

I just replaced both of my gaskets replaced at an indy shop. They had to change my oil as well because coolant got in it. Total was about $600.

I was gonna try to attempt to do this myself as watching the YouTube video made it look easy but they did show a couple of things that would be a PITA so I decided to support my local Indy shop do it so I can spend money at the mall

please Check before paying a lot of cash. In reality most OFHG do not leak as often as people might think.

clean the area and then check!

Garage List
With that much puddled in the area it looks like a oil change job and missed cleaning it all.

So ironic that this thread got bumped today. The leak turned out to be a bad oil filter O-ring. Replaced it and it stopped leaking, however I did just have the OFHG, water pump, thermostat, tensioner, belt, etc all replaced today as preventative maintenance. Bought all of the parts about 5 months ago and they have been sitting in the garage since because I was super busy at work and then Covid hit and I wasn't really in a rush as I have been WFH and barely driving the car.

I Just got done with my valve cover today...I made a video..will try to edit and post today. hope it helps you...it turned out to be easier than i thought.

just an advise
Use BMW OEM gasket (made my MAHLE)..atleast you will know it will last you 50k plus miles....the other after market brands i have heard horror stories about that it lasts no more than 10-20k and leaks....

yeah you’re absolutely right. Never cheap out on important parts.
I bought the whole valve cover (from VAICO) and i still have a genuine OE VCG. The hesitation has gotten much better; but it is still there.

I hope its the pcv
