Does Software update change Steering???
So I have a 2013 BMW 535i M-Sport. Was wondering if I got a software upgrade, does it update the power steering programming as well?? I know the 2014 models steering is different.
Would this apply to a pre-LCI model as well? |

Not sure but the auto magazines test drove the LCI and didn't notice much of a difference.

@Alpine - I would imagine there's always the possibility of a SW update changing the steering feel considering it's all electric, and SW clearly controls certain aspects such as the stiffness in different driving dynamics modes.
As for the difference, you should judge it for yourself. I noticed a slight improvement in the LCI as far as steering feel goes - a bit more feedback, even on-center, and slightly stiffer perhaps in "normal" mode. Either way, it's probably not enough to rock your world... so I wouldn't worry about it one way or the other.

I did test drive the 2014 LCI M-Sport and the steering did seem to hold a straight line better with more overall better self centering down the road. Kinda wish my 2013 felt like this.

I'd see what your SA says... perhaps the SW update will help here. As I said, it's all electric... so I'd hold out some hope that a SW update can actually help the feel, unless they actually changed something mechanical (servos or what-not) that is the root of the improvement. Otherwise, keep the car, enjoy it, drive it, and wait for the new 5 series to debut... nice thing about cars, there's always a better one JUST around the corner!
