I believe ESys needs a new token to work as on 12/31/17. Check the coding section for more info.

Did you get the right shifter? IIRC, there was a change with the LCI (2014+). I could be wrong, just ask my wife...

Physically they look the same... You'll need to check part numbers. I upgraded my 2012 to the SAT and it was plug-n-paly.

I went to realoem.com and found this...

For a 2011 F10 the p/n should be 61319253077; however it was replaced by p/n 61319296900. There does seem to be a change between MY2013 and MY 2014.

just joined, sorry for bumping an old thread, but is there any way to tell what shifter you have without removing it and counting the pins, 8 vs 10?

it seems like 3/2012 is the changeover

my car is a 2012, purchased 3/12, so i assume is the early version.

I just bought the car and want to replace the shifter since the "P" is worn. would love to upgrade to the sport shifter, just want to get the correct one.

Changeover happens in the factory, so you need to look at your production date, not purchase date. If your car was purchased 3/12, it was probably made in 2011. So you have the early version.

right like i said i assume my car is early, but is there any way to confirm without removing the shifter and looking at the actual plug?

i think the early cars should be 8 PIN vs the later 10 PIN

Nope, they're visually identical. Just remove the shifter, it's not particularly difficult.

If all you want is to replace the "P" why not paint it? I did that on our 2012 before I just replaced the shifter with the SAT shifter. Chip off the old "paint' (BE CAREFUL!) get a stencil kit the right height (I don't remember the size) and put the "P" in the middle then just paint with plastic spray paint. Once dryish, pull the stencil and voile, you have a new "P"! The silver surround (base shifter) just pops-off giving you access to the "P" piece. Just be careful, slow and methodical.

YMMV

Well I do like the look of the sport shifter better so if I can find a decent used on cheap I’ll swap it.

I did pull my shifter tonight and it’s the old style, 8 pin. It actually had a date on the side of 2/12 so it was close to the cutoff.

Unfortunately it looks like the 8 pin one is much harder to find than the 10 pin

Thank you for the informative thread, I will do the change of the Gear selector switch because the lights aren't working on my current one, I have the error code 802680 (Function indicator faulty).
Is there any fix to this error code other than just changing the whole GWS.

Thanks again.
