Jb4 misfire issue
Could really use some help here.
Installed jb4 and now have a tom of misfires and goes into limp mode as soon as under boost. Removed jb4, cleared everything, and now it does it even with the jb4 removed. Pulled all of the ngk 2 step colder plugs, reduced gaps to .025, installed the jb4, made sure everything was clear and still same problem. What is going on here? Been trying to get help from BMS, but they are very unresponsive. |

Is this a new or used JB4? Have you checked the Tmap wiring for broken wires or a wire that is not fully seated in the connector?

What year is your f10. I'm not sure on the 550i's. I know that the N55's didn't get EWG until 2014.

Something with the wiring on bank1 (passenger side). Looks like a short. How did you do the install? Tmaps & ob2 connector or did you tap into the canbus on the DME direct?

I think you might have wrong jb4. When I had jb4 I accidently flashed ewg firmware and the car would overboost like a rocket then limp mode with shit loads of errors and misfires. I dont know if you can just reflash your jb4 with pwg firmware to fix the issue with the new version of jb4. I am speaking from n55 experience though.

Update: I removed the JB4 yesterday, cleared all codes and than drove around. I dosnt push the car, just drove around. After some progressively more aggressive pulls I started punching WOT with no issues at all. Fast forward to now and I drove the car all day for work 100 miles with no issues at all and many wot pulls.
So what does this mean? Was the JB4 corrupted or something. I am very skeptical about trying it on the car again. |

I always had tomorrow with jb4... no matter what I did as in swapping parts... but the person I sold it to seemed to have worked fine I guess since he didn't complain.

Well I drove the car hard all day today as well and had no issues. I'm really torn as to what I should do. I want more power, but am afraid that I will run into the same issue with another tune.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the 550i JB4, but it seems like you TMAP sensor wasn't connected properly. Did you double check the wiring .
I know that the Jb4 for the N55 has the same connector for the TMAP and MAP sensor, so it's easy to get hooked up wrong. I had mine hooked up incorrectly at first.

Have you emailed Terry or team directly? Terry and his team have always been really responsive even one time on Saturday and Sunday while I was out at the races.
I think it's apparent that the JB4 is the issue based on your posts, but I don't think it's bad or bad for your car just a setting or firmware that is wonky. I just updated my firmware to JB4_N63_OBDII_3_T4.hex. Have you tried that? When the JB4 is connected, is everything functioning or no? I have to swap my battery tomorrow but after I will connect and pull my data from the User Adjustment Settings and share them with you and you can see if your settings are the same since we are almost identical models/years. I will grab the emails I have for Terry and his team and PM them to you. But as mentioned above, N54tech has a section for N63's and even though this platform is pretty dead now it might not hurt to post there. Good luck with the fixes

Thank you for the replies. I have been driving my car hard the past few days and have had no issues at all. I think it is obvious the issue was either with the jb4 or with a connection during the installs.
I talked to terry and we are going to swap the units. I will give a new one a try when it arrives. |
