New BMW owner...

This is a great forum! Looking forward to learning everything I can about my new-to-me 2015 550i M Sport. Purchased in Feb 2021 with 79k miles...now it has 81k and I am loving it. My friend also got a 550i in Feb, except his is an 08' E60. My dogs name is Buddy and I purchased this car so he could ride in the back...my 2 door truck was not so comfy for him as he added weight. Rescue German Sheppard, had him for 9 months now.

Want to mod slightly (lower, cat bypass, intake, tune) and any insight is greatly appreciated!

Looks great! Welcome to the club!

I have experience with a BM3 engine tune and an XHP transmission tune on my 535 and absolutely love the difference they made.

Welcome!

I have a 2014 550i (with the n63tu as well) i've done the Stage 1 Engine/Transmission tune from Mission Performance.

I've had it for over 25k miles so far, and car runs great.

I just added a Dinan CAI as well, also have the dinan shockware (i'm lowered on ACS Springs)

if you're at 80k miles, you may want to consider replacing the shocks, when lowering, you can go OEM Shocks / Lowering Springs or you can go aftermarket coilovers...

Also others may disagree, but for me i do oil changes every 5-6k miles...i don't wait for the yearly / 15k interval that BMW Recommends....

Welcome to the F10 550i fam and congrats!

If yours isn't an xDrive, definitely consider a set of Bilstein B12s, it's a much better option over lowering springs and stock shocks, especially when the stock shocks have a lifetime of around 60-70K. Those of us with xDrive only find relief from the KW V3s, but they're double the cost of B12.

Welcome to the f10 and n63 family.

Those are the mods I have and are great mods for the 550i in my opinion. Catless downpipes, hr springs, custom intake, tune

Looks like you're in AZ? If you ever need a hand, hit me up.

Welcome from your friend up north (Utah). I change my oil every 3-4k miles, Liqui-Moly 5w-40, plugs every 10k miles. Keep up on your maintenance, that is the biggest thing with this platform.

I have a laundry list of stuff done but this post is about you and your new car. Like I said though, maintenance maintenance maintenance!! When I first got my N63 non-tu, I had valve stem seals done, total invoice was $16k with everything they did but I only paid $1800 or something in that range. So you don't want to be another N63+ horror story.

Enjoy your car and if you ever come through Utah LMK. We need to get a RMR or West Coast meetup and cruise for a few days in Vegas or something, that would be an awesome photo op!!!

Congrats with your beautiful purchase and welcome to the club! All i want to say is that the more you take care of your car the more it will take care of you! And that is FACT!!!
Everyone in my area told me that BMW F10 wasn't reliable but my car with more than 215k km is still going strong and HARD and trust me when I say it. Just don't cheap out on oil and change it when its due, I do mine in every 4-5k miles. Wish you many happy miles with your car.

Glad to hear...I am sure that 535 can scoot with a tune/trans upgrade.

Look forward to picking your brain a little...

What made you choose ACS springs? I am familiar with H&R and am interested in your decision. I am worried about the Dynamic Handling package...do I have any hindrances with that option? I know the sways are electronic, and still am learning about what the DH package actually provides. Can I swap the springs/shocks for a Coilover setup without throwing any codes? Sways?

For sure, I am a 5k or 1 year (which ever comes first) on all my vehicles no matter what!

Non-x-drive, so will look into the Bilsteins...thanks for the heads-up. As mentioned previously, can I direct swap them with no issues? Still learning about the suspension setup, so pardon my lack of knowledge.

Palm Desert/Cali, but still close! Appreciate the offer and depending on how my research goes I may need to make a road trip and check out your beast!

Plugs every 10k? What does BMW recommend? Totally agree on maintenance...never can be too careful!

For sure on the photo op; will let you know if I am heading out that way...and vice versa!

I believe the recommended spark plug expectancy is like 37k miles on a new stock N63 motor, higher the mileage and the more mods, the more frequent the change. I change sparks at 10k miles because I was JB4 and I purchased from FCPEuro so they are free through exchange (minus shipping) so it's worth it to me. I'm using Liqui-Moly Molygen 5w-40 which is free (minus shipping) at this point too through exchange and I just group them together every couple of oil changes.

It's probably overkill on the maintenance but when it's free after the fact, it's not that bad for 2 hours of my time here and there.

I am now N63Intake/BadBlack Stage 3 Tuned, stacked with JB4, WMI, upgraded/rebuilt turbos, NGK 2 step colder plugs, BavAuto High Performance coils, N63Intake oil cooler, front mounted intakes w/dual catch cans, Kittyless DP's, X-Pipe, Res+Muffler deletes w/ 4" dual tips, Arm charge pipes, 3.5 TMAP sensors, TurboSmart Diverter Valves, drop springs, larger radiator, and after I'm done dialing everything in this weekend then I'm am adding XHP Stage 3 Trans Tune (just got my trans flush kit and need to do that first). Grocery list of cosmetics but not performance related.

I've also had to go through CCP for valve stems and had to replace the injectors, so almost a rebuilt motor with every hose and line replaced and that will give you just enough paranoia to go crazy on the maintenance. A few DTM's and that dreaded 'gong' and you will understand 😂. The mods will create more need for more maintenance, you can almost watch your oil go down by the mile, but she's still the daily driver. You have to pay to play I guess.

Enjoy your car and all the comfort/features it has, they are amazing machines!!!

Thanks, really enjoying it! Just put some new rims/tires on...saved some weight and new rubber is always nice. I've put about 3500 miles on it so far; 100 with the new setup...sitting around 83k miles

Welcome, the F10 550i is a lot of fun. My 550i is tuned by Cedar Performance and the car pulls hard. I use NGK 97506 plugs gapped at 0.022 with Eldor coils, change every 20k miles, Liqui Moly 5w-40 with MoS2 anti-friction every 5k miles, Techron every 3k miles.
