Best way to ship wheels?
Hello,
What is the best way to ship wheels? I can't get a quote because everyplace I call wants the destination, but I don't know the destination yet. How about packaging? I'm selling a the stock wheels from my LCI M-Sport, so 19" style 351s with the RF tires about 35k miles. I'm in Bay Area and would rather sell in person but I'm trying to prepare for offers that require shipping, since I have some inquiries, and I have yet to get a shipping quote. Advice? |

Typically I assume a square box that is around half an inch bigger and taller than your actual wheels, get the price of that, and then multiply by 4. You give out quotes as they come, buyers will typically ask for a quote on the shipping, but expect 150-200 in shipping costs.

Easy. Pick up 2 of the Home Depot Heavy Duty 24x20x21 boxes. Two wheels fit perfectly inside each box. I'd just add one or two layers of flat cardboard in between each pair of wheels. I did just that when I sold and shipped my 351 wheels.

I stack two wheels with cardboard in between them together. Then I put cardboard on the other two sides. Next I wrap the two wheels with plastic wrap until I feel comfortable in my ability to lift the pair by just the top wheel. I found it was a little cheaper doing this vs shipping 4 individual rims with tires.
Also, never use FedEx. They cannot be trusted with anything important in my experience. |

I guess something that needs clarification is, OP are you shipping the wheels with tires on or off?

I've used the boxes in the post above to ship some bare wheels to me before. They came damaged and UPS denied the claim. They claimed it's not a proper way to ship wheels. They said it was supposed to be individually in a box.

I shipped some Tesla 19" or 20" wheels a while back. I just took them to the UPS store, took them a few days because they needed to order the boxes.
For cheapest shipping you can print the label yourself and find a coupon code for UPS. Sometimes they even post it on their site... right now on ups.com it shows use code SOAR for up to 45% off. |

If no tires, use Home Depot boxes.
