LPFP upgrade

As of late I've been tooling around knowing I was out of fuel and I had more power on the table supported by my mods, but again... I can't feed the boost.

First step in that department is upgrading the LPFP. The F10 N55 cars use a TI Automotive form factor pump so the Walbro/TI Automotive 450LPH pump looked to be a direct swap in.

For less than $100 its a no brainer to knock this one out myself, rather than pay the $400+ Fuel-it or the like fetch for a ready made pump already converted.

Anyway, tackled this project last night and took a few pictures.

Lock ring tool, absolutely required to get it open. The amount of torque needed to release the ring was staggering.

Upgraded 450 LPH pump on the left, stock unit on the right

450 LPH pump drops in place of the stock, fits the housing, fits the filter sock. Zero modifications needed. I crimped spades onto the wiring and inserted them into the factory connector. 100% reversible if and when I wanted to.

Great pics. How hard was this to remove ? Definitely need the tool to remove. Was thinking of changing my pump. Mine is gurgling when below 1/2 tank of gas.

It was "Either its going to pop free and go flying or the fuel tank is going to break" tight.

I made a grave miscalculation doing this at 3/8th of a tank of fuel as well. I lost at least a gallon or two the shop floor. Wait until you have 1/8th or the range warning up to do this.

Removal of the fuel pump assembly from the tank was simple enough it all unclips and snaps back in.

Any guess what this LPFP upgrade gives you in terms of supported wheel horsepower? 450whp maybe?

The BOSCH HPFP is the limiting factor now. 450whp on the stock HPFP isn't realistic. Early style Continental no problem as it was shared with the N54. The BOSCH style is better, more reliable but has less fueling headroom than the Continental it replaced.

I'm working on a solution for that though. I have a complete S55 dual pump HPFP setup at the shop, will be retrofitting to my N55 soon that will give me 600+whp fueling support.

The LPFP upgrade is to provide enough volume support to the dual HPFP incoming.

Nice documentation. I was definitely more of a hurry when I did my PS2 and went with the Fuel-It Solution, which is essentially the same thing. I also upgraded my fuel line from the pump to the split between PI and the stock HPFP. I also added an inline Ethanol sensor.

The one stuck used is f90000274

I bought mine from amazon F90000267 which is a slightly lower max pressure before the relief valve kicks in.

Both has the same flow rate and dimensions.

DO you know which cars ran this earlier continental pump?

Early production N55 are Continental, not sure on the production split. Completely different pump architecture and easily identified visually without taking anything apart.

I'm in the middle of doing the upgrade with the Walbro f90000274. Bought a bunch of AN and other assorted fittings based on what I read on other forums when all I needed was the pump and this

http://www.radiumauto.com/Submersibl...bing-P672.aspx

Also, a big flattip screwdriver and a swing wrench (aka Hammer) was all it took to get the ring off. In the morning it will all go back together with 3/8" PTFE fuel line from pump to inline sensor then on to HPFP. Not even close to the hassel I thought it would be, easy peezy.

Finished this morning and filled up with e85 (tested at E78). Runs like a champ, getting ready to analyze my logs but I don't expect any surprizes there. I'm running FBO with stock turbo, I just reset adaptions and did a few pulls and it runs fantastic.

The one pictured above is a Baum Tools P/N 161190. It was ordered from Baum, but there are likely plenty of resellers out there.

No blend just pure e85 full tank?
