Why does every f$&@ing thread on here have to turn into a grille d@&k-swinging contest. These are amazing race cars…all of them.

Ha! It all comes down to the grille, at least there'll be no overheating issues with that opening.

They needed more refinement to blend M4/M3 dimensions, but what's done is done. ![]()

If I had a G8X I would be looking to get the exhaust setup for the street car 😆

Thanks for throwing my photos over! Fun time on Friday for sure. Saturday was messy weather, uh?
Those jack stands are really cool (the red and silver ones in my photo). If you notice in my photo with brake and jack stand, the air jack metal shaft is on top of the jack stand not going all the way through it. They use the stands with the air jack to get extra height to work easier. To lower it from the "double height" they lower the air jack metal shaft back into the car allowing car to rest soley on jack stand, disengage the part on jack stand that closes the center whole and then lower the air jack again - now going through the center hole of jack stand. Then they pull the jack stand out - car is now on air jack only. Pretty wicked. I watched them do it and the car was at a crazy angle for a few moments when they did the front lowering. No biggie to them though. I took like 187 photos..won't bore you with all of them. It's going to be cold next weekend!!! Bonfires in the infield!!! I admit though, I live close enough to go home for a while and just come back. (BMWCCA member since 2012 and love it)

Sweet pics. Thanks for posting. We watched the race today and can't wait to binge it next weekend.
The only discussion remaining is should I make ropa viejo, Cuban picadillo, wings, or pizza. I'm leaning to "why not all?" |

as few have said, clearly the design works on a race car very well. The wider fenders balance everything out beautifully, the grilles are purposeful and fit well proportionally to the front. The road car would need them narrower to have a good look, that much is clear. The race car looks mean as hell. Very cool!

Well I guess the cars weren't competitive at all today, even after the BOP adjustment. Let's hope this improves until next week.

Great video! He gives some pretty good insight into the car without getting too technical. Best of luck to them!
If I had to guess, the dual air to air intercoolers are better at reducing heat soak over sustained full throttle usage this gets over long distance racing. |

I was on the fence with the grilles from the beginning. This is the first time I'm seeing them on BMW GT cars and they look stunning. I think it boils down to both the look of the grille itself and how well it's executed with the rest of the front end. That "openness" to the grille paired with a monster lip make all the difference in the world. On the G80 M3, both of those are missing, which is why it looks out of place to me sometimes. Every G80 should come with a monster lip and this exact looking grille. It would clean up the front end so much and forever cement it as great looking with few people hating on it the way they do now. |
