I understand that PML has no plans at the moment, as the 528 could potentially cannibalise sales of the 535. Also, based on reports of comments from BMW reps at the Malaysian launch, the high sulfur content of petrol sold in Malaysia (Singapore as well?) would eventually clog up the injectors of the DI engine used in the 528. Apparently, BMW have not been able to solve this issue for the NA engine in the 528 but have been able to do so for the FI engine in the 535. Quite how this is the case, I have no idea.

Currently, the only way of getting a 528 would be through the parallel importers. The savings are potentially huge but you need to weigh the pros and cons.

Thanks guys.

Just checked with a BMW PML agent and he said:

"BMW will likely bring the 528to Singapore with the 258bhp engine BUT like other 5 series before with a 3litre engine, it is usually not a fast mover thus either it will be only on special indent basis or limited units. Most customers would choose the 535 if the price diff is not more than 30k. Will update once firm details are provided".

I hope they do though as I am thinking that the 523i at 204hp could be somewhat underpowered in view of its weight. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks man. Guess I'll have to wait and see or go with the 523 version. By the way, what's your own feedback on this beauty so far?

Garage List
I drove the 523i with 8sp Sport automatic in Sport mode and it seemed fine up to about 70km. its definitely no speed demon but fine around the city.

went with a 528i myself. in HK with the tax the price diff between 528i and 535i is ~20k USD and all you get in additional options is a sunroof.

Guess i should wait a couple more months (exp. Dec 10') to get more info about the final 528i specs and availability from my agent.

Here's yet another link which I thought was not bad and hopefully gives abit more clarity (and not confuse) to N52 and N53 engines and why N55 engines can overcome the sulphur stuff.

In South Africa we also have the 2.5 litre engine. I bought one and am very happy. I decided to go with the 523 because of the price. The 528 was to expensive. Power is not bad compared to my 323i 2006 model that I had before. The 5 series is much bigger. The fuel consumption on the 523i is better than on the 323i. I did a long trip over the weekend of about 1200 kilometres and got an average consumption of 12.5 kilometres per litre with a average speed over the distance of 106 km/h. My cruising speed on the highways was set to 130km/h with the speed control. The car was also fully loaded. Two adults, 2 children and the luggage compartment was full. The 8 speed sports auto is magic. Definitely the best car I ever had.
