Its official as of Monday at noon ...

Back in the BMW club. Just pulled the trigger on a 2014 535xi with luxury in Alpine White. Its been a long and boring ride since my E36 days.

Came down to a shoot out between the 535 and A6 3.0. I was literally in my car when the sales guy came back out and cut the deal. Drove the 228, 335,428, 528, 535, A4, A5, A6 2.0 , A6 3.0, CLA 250, New C Class.

Really like the A6 3.0 seemed very agile and enough has been said about the interior. Just got a better much better deal on the 535.

Thanks to everyone for all your feedback and advice.

jmr986,

I had a C7 A6 two years ago, the A6 is more agile and a bit quicker, but the 5 series is a higher quality and better built car in my opinion.

Noticed that also X. Drove them back to back the A6 was more agile, loved that supercharger, but taking the freeway ramps the 535 felt more planted. Each car has its plus' and minus' both good cars.

I'm leasing and the problems with the Audi's, is the lower residual. I got $7k off MSRP because it was a 2014 (new), plus with the maintenance. It became a no brainer. I only had one Audi dealer willing to work with me. One dealer wanted me to lease the new S3 ($44k msrp) for $70/month more than the $64k 535!?

Congrats , my final choice came down to those two as well.

At that point it was just a matter of personal taste, as I feel that both are actually great cars, and you can't really go wrong with either one. Three months into the ownership, no regrets for me, just the opposite if fact. Hope your experience is the same

Congrats jmr,

I love the smoother 6 cylinders for daily driving. The V8 torque band doesn't hit until 1800rpm vs 1300 for the 6. I'm also dying with my 15.5 MPG lol. Every time I'm stuck in traffic, I ask myself if the 535 is a better choice.

You can't be missing out on much. I'm sure that gauge flys to that 1800 RPM mark very quickly.
To make you feel better, my car averages 14.2 MPG. There's a lot of stop and go traffic, but still really crappy.

Congrats on new F10. Anthracite trim really sets off the interior. Enjoy the new ride.

Thanks Luminor I think it goes well with the black interior. I'm always amazed at how the interior colors don't photograph accurately. I do wish BMW would offer the open grain look like the other German car makers. I think that really makes the interior stand out.

the problem I have with the 550 is that 1800 torque band makes the car not as predictable and smooth as the 535. Since i drive in "normal" or "comfort" most of the time, the car tries to stay under 2000 rpm. Once in a while, it will hit past 1800 rpm and the car accelerates slightly faster for a brief moment until it shifts. Is it a deal breaker? No, but it is somewhat annoying as I usually expect the V8 to be smoother than a V6 in most cars. Of course when I was test driving before I purchased, it was above 3k rpm the whole time and that may have clouded my judgment.
