Certified Series - Yes or No?

My lease on my 2007 335i is coming to an end. I have absolutely loved this vehicle, and would consider purchasing it.

On the other hand, I have loved driving the 5 series, and while a brand new vehicle will cost more per month than I am willing to pay, I am considering purchasing a certified series 5.

So my question is, should I? Can anyone with experience tell me what would be considered a reasonable kilometre count on a 5 series? I know everyone says 24000 per year max, but realistically... what's the score? I have heard from some owners that the engines are bullet proof, and they won't even blink an eye at 50k a year. I am told the cars will last a decade with proper maintenance, even being driven vigorously.

So, can any of the masses comment on this? I would appreciate some insight into the best way to proceed.

FYI, I have no problem paying for maintenance on the vehicle. I know that maintenance will be a bit pricey, and I am prepared for that. I just don't want a $1500 a month car payment. I may be a BMW lifer, but that's more than my mortgage, and at some point, you just have to say "ok, this is excessive".

If you enjoy the 335, just buy it from BMW FS. When my son's lease was up on December 3, 2008, he told them he was turning it in. BMW FS offered the car to him at $3,000 below the residual value. I negotiated the price to $5,000 off of the residual value. That was a great deal.

Thanks Pharding! If I decide to go with the 335, I will follow your advice. For the moment, I am hoping someone can enlighten me on the value of purchasing a 5 series.
